Five Practitioners from Baoquanling Farm Still Detained

Feb. 25, 2012 |   By a Clearwisdom correspondent from Heilongjiang Province, China

(Clearwisdom.net) On the evening of August 22, 2011, over ten officers from the Baoquanling Farm Police Sub-Bureau, led by director Zhang Shupeng, climbed over a wall and broke into Ms. Li Guiyun's home. The officers {illegally arrested}} eight practitioners who were in the living room. Two of the officers also found Ms. Li's husband, a non-practitioner, in his bedroom and forced him into silence.

During the event, the practitioners tried to explain that following Falun Dafa's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance helps people raise their moral standards, is beneficial for personal health and is good for society. However, the officers beat them and forced them into police vehicles. One of the practitioners was forced to the ground and another was not allowed to put his shoes on.

The Baoquanling Farm Police Sub-Bureau interrogated the practitioners several times. On the way to the interrogation room, the practitioners' faces were covered, and they were handcuffed and shackled. The interrogation lasted from 3 p.m. until 3 a.m. the next day.

Five practitioners are still detained. Ms. Li Guiyun, Ms. Zhao Hongyu, and Ms. Qi Xiumei are being held at the Hegang No. 2 Detention Center. Mr. Liu Hongbin and Mr. Liu Gui are being held at the Baoquanling Detention Center. It has been reported that the local police is conspiring with the Procuratorate to illegally sentence these practitioners.

Three practitioners--Ms. Wang Fengyu, Ms. Hu Dongling, and Ms. Lu Chengying--were released after officials extorted money from them. Ms. Hu's friends and relatives from Harbin came to her aid following her arrest. Her supervisor and colleagues also came to vouch for her, saying, “Ms. Hu is a good person. We want her back at work.” The officers did not want to be held responsible for the outcry and finally released her after extorting 3,000 yuan from her family. Ms. Wang was released on October 24, 2011, after having 30,000 yuan extorted from her. Ms. Lu was released on January 20, 2012, after having 10,000 yuan extorted from her.

Homes Ransacked and Families Suffer

At the time of the arrests, the officers ransacked Ms. Li's home without a warrant. They confiscated two cell phones, a DVD player, two computers, a bank card, a printer, and a recorder. They also took 10,000 yuan in cash, and all of Ms. Li's Falun Gong books and materials.

Ms. Li's husband had to submit to an interrogation overnight, which caused him a great deal of fear and stress. The incident left him wondering why law-abiding citizens were being beaten. Later, two officers returned to Ms. Li's home, intending to ransack it a second time.

The homes of the other practitioners were also ransacked. Ms. Zhao had two computers and two printers taken from her. Her home was also monitored thereafter, and all visitors were illegally interrogated. Ms. Zhao's husband was not allowed to leave his own home.

During the five practitioners' detentions, their young children, elderly parents, friends, and family went to the police department several times to request their release and the return of their personal property. Zhang Shupeng, director of the Baoquanling Farm Police Sub-Bureau, sent them away, saying, “I don't have anything to do with this, go talk to somebody else. What was taken were illegal items and they cannot be returned. Don't ever come to me.” One of the family members said afterward in despair, “All those items were our personal property, and the cash they took was for our living expenses. How can we survive without it? It was Zhang Shupeng who led the officers who took away the items and money from our home. Now he says that he had nothing to do with it and knows nothing. It seems that there is no law at all.”

The family members also spoke to Ren Fayun, the person in charge of the case. He denied having any involvement and said that they should speak to the Criminal Investigation Division. As a result, the families have no one to turn to for help.

12 Years of Persecution

The five detained practitioners have been arrested many times during the 12 years of persecution:

Ms. Li, in her 40s, was subjected to forced labor in 2000.

Ms. Zhao, about 40, was detained for 30 days in February 2007. Her sister, Ms. Zhao Hongrong, was held in a forced labor camp and later forced to leave home.

Ms. Qi, in her 40s, is a former teacher of the Baoquanling Farm Elementary School. She was detained for 30 days in February 2007. Her work license was later revoked, and she was forced to do cleaning jobs to make ends meet.

Mr. Liu Hongbin, in his 40s, was detained for 30 days in February 2007. He was also detained for 30 days in 2006.

Mr. Liu Gui, in his 40s, moved to Baoquanling Farm only a few years ago.
