March 6, 2012 |   By a Clearwisdom correspondent from Shanghai, China

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Zhang Yi, 34, from Ganquan Road, Putuo Distict in Shanghai, started practicing Falun Gong in January 2007. She was arrested by officers from the Yangpu District Police Station on November 22, 2007, when she was seen distributing truth clarification materials in Yangpu District. The officers ransacked her home and confiscated a printer, computer, and other personal belongings. The items were never returned to her. Ms. Zhang was later illegally sentenced to one year of forced labor and taken to Shanghai Women's Forced Labor Camp. At the time her daughter had just turned one. After Ms. Zhang was released from the labor camp, officers from the Ganquan Police Station, local 610 Office, and residential committee harassed and intimidated her and her family. Ms. Zhang's cell phone and her family's landline were often tapped and monitored.

In February 2010, Ms. Zhang was forcibly carried out of her home by several male officers while she was still in her pajamas and slippers. Many local residents witnessed the arrest. She was detained for one day and no legal documents were filed. Zichang Residential Committee Party Secretary Gu, local 610 Office agent Xu Defang, and officer Wang Huizhong from the local police station participated in the arrest. They claimed that they had spent 20,000 yuan in expenses to follow and monitor Ms. Zhang.

Agents from the Putuo District 610 Office were sent to follow and monitor Ms. Zhang in 2011. They harassed her family and kept asking them whether Ms. Zhang owned a computer and where she worked.

Ms. Zhang was on her way home from work on the evening of February 1, 2012, when officers from the Changning District Domestic Security Division arrested her as she approached her front door. Over twenty plainclothes and uniformed officers came to the door. Without presenting any legal documents, they ordered Ms. Zhang's family members, who live next door, to open Ms. Zhang's door. When they refused to do so, the officers pried the door open. They confiscated a computer, cell phone, cash, and other personal belongings. The officers then tried to get Ms. Zhang's family members to sign a receipt for the items taken. The receipt was incomplete however, as they claimed that they did not have time to record all the items taken.

When Ms. Hu Zhongtian went to Ms. Zhang's home the following day, she was also arrested. She was pushed to the ground, her bag was snatched from her, and she was injured in the process. Her hands were bloody and bruised when she was handcuffed and pushed into the police car.

Ms. Zhang is a single parent with a five-year-old daughter. Her parents are in poor health and are already taking care of their grandson. They live in fear of police harassment. Ms. Zhang's mother suffers from chronic pyelonephritis, a kidney disease, and has been on medication for more than 20 years. Ms. Zhang's father has difficulty walking.
