Wanjia Forced Labor Camp in Harbin Extends Its Atrocities to Qianjin Labor Camp—A Report Smuggled Out of the Camp

July 4, 2012

(Minghui.org) In 2003, the internationally notorious Wanjia Forced Labor Camp of Harbin branched out and Qianjin Forced Labor Camp was opened; it is a forced labor camp specifically for women. Its methods of administration and persecution were copied from Wanjia Forced Labor Camp. Most of the personnel from Qianjin were also transferred from Wanjia. Falun Gong practitioners make up the majority of those imprisoned in the camp.

Fifty-six practitioners were imprisoned in Qianjin Forced Labor Camp as of May 14, 2012. The number of practitioners “transformed” has always been the criteria used to compete for Exemplary Working Units under the control of Harbin City Government and the Bureau of Forced Labor. Ye Yun, the head of the camp; Wang Min, the former head of the First Team; Wang Xiaowei (now the director of personnel), head of the Second Team; Huo Shuping, head of the Second Team; Zhang Bo, section head; and others have been directly involved in the persecution of Falun Gong and use every despicable means imaginable.

Wang Min, head of the First Team, abused every practitioner who was assigned to the team. Those who refused to be “reformed” were shocked with electric batons or viciously beaten. Wang ordered practitioners to wrap disposable chopsticks as though they were machines. (The allegedly “sanitary” chopsticks were not sanitized.) Practitioners had to work from 7:30 in the morning to 7:00 in the evening, and those who couldn't finish their workload had to take the chopsticks to their rooms to finish wrapping them. If they still couldn't finish their quota, they were forced to stand for extended periods of time or had their terms extended.

Wang Xiaowei ordered practitioners to recite team regulations and reporting lines. The practitioners who refused were taken to an unmonitored room on the third floor and tortured. Cameras were installed in almost every place in the camp to monitor practitioners 24 hours a day.

On November 4, 2011, Wang Xiaowei sent seven practitioners to the third floor to be tortured, one after another. He shocked four of them with electric batons, leaving scars all over their bodies. He also deprived them of sleep for a whole night and didn't stop abusing them until 3:00 the next afternoon.

Practitioners Ms. Zhang and Ms. Fang were tortured on the third floor from February 27 to March 24, 2012, for refusing to recite the camp regulations. They were handcuffed to the heater and forced to stand all day long. After a few days, they were forced to squat all day. They were deprived of sleep, denied water for personal hygiene, and restricted to limited restroom use. The two practitioners launched a hunger strike. Ms. Zhang was on a hunger strike for 10 days, and Ms. Fang for 15 days. Both of them lost a lot of weight and had swollen legs. They are still imprisoned in the camp.

Huo Shuping ordered all the practitioners in the Second Team to pack toothpicks. They weren't allowed to stop for a second except for lunch time and restroom break. When one of the practitioners refused to cooperate, Huo threatened her with an electric baton. The practitioner stopped Huo with strong righteous thoughts. But she was then forced to stand 10 hours a day for a month. Huo ordered Ms. Fang to recite her reporting line when camp director Ye visited the dining hall on April 6. Ms. Fang refused and was shocked with an electric baton and her right arm and hand were injured.

The profit from making toothpicks was bonus money for the jailers. Practitioners who refused to cooperate were isolated and monitored closely. Their only food at each meal was soup, which didn't have a single drop of oil. All the oil was used to make cakes and pastries for the jailers. Practitioners were not allowed to read Falun Gong books or do the exercises. Anyone who sat with their legs crossed would be abused. Frequent body searches are conducted, and some practitioners were stripped naked and searched. All practitioners about to be released were stripped naked and searched.

The atrocities exposed in this report are only a tiny part of the persecution taking place there. The labor camp tries to cover up its crimes.
