Kunming City: More Than 20 Practitioners Arrested in May

Mr. Ye Baofu, Wife and Daughter Arrested

In the morning on May 4, 2012, a police car arrived at the residential compound where Mr. Ye Baofu and his family live. The officers illegally arrested Mr. Ye; his wife, Yang Mingqing; and their daughter, Ms. Ye Mao. They also ransacked their home and left with Falun Gong truth clarification materials, cash, and other personal property. The search and arrest lasted till 2 p.m. It is not clear where the Ye family is being detained.

Mr. Ye, 62, was a vice president for Forestry Central Hospital. His wife is 59 years old. Their daughter, Ye Mao, 34, lost her job after police pressured her company.

The family’s troubles began on April 4, 2000, following a visit to Yunnan Province Communist Party Headquarters to appeal for Falun Gong. The couple were arrested and detained for 30 days.

To avoid police harassment, the family moved to a temporary residence. But on August 15, 2001, all three were arrested by state security police from the Panlong District. Subsequently, the couple were sentenced to two years of forced labor, and the daughter to one year.

On January 10, 2005, Mr. Ye and his daughter were again arrested at their residence by Panlong State Security Police and the 610 Office staff. After the police ransacked their home, the three were taken to Panlong No. 2 Detention Center. Mr. Ye was sentenced to five years in jail; the wife and daughter were both sentenced to three years in jail.

Mr. Su Kun and His Wife, Ms. Zhang Xiaodan, Arrested

At 5:00 a.m. on May 4, 2012, Panlong Domestic Security Police arrested Mr. Sun Kun and his wife, Ms. Zhang Xiaodan, at their home. They took a computer, Dafa books, printing materials, cell phones, and some cash. On May 7, they finally called the family, who had been unaware of the couple’s arrest for days. The couple is being detained in Panlong Detention Center.

Mr. Sun, in his 40s, was a computer science professor at Yunnan National Defense Technical College. On December 6, 2004, when he handed truth clarifying VCD’s to his students, he was reported by a parent and subsequently sent to Yunnan Number 2 Forced Labor Camp for three years. He served the full sentence and was released at the end of 2007.

Ms. Wang Huizhen and Ms. Cai Wenhui Arrested

On May 5, 2012, police illegally arrested Ms. Wang Huizhen and Ms. Cai Wenhui at Ms. Wang’s home.

Ms. Cai Wenhui, 40, lives near Xinwen Road in Kunming’s Xishan District. She began to practice Falun Gong in August 1997. After she handed a Shen Yun DVD to a stranger in Nanyang Town on August 10, 2008, the stranger informed the police. Ms. Cai was taken to Nanyangjiao Police Department for interrogation. In the evening, she was taken to Nanmen Detention Center of Yiliang and remained there for seven months. In a secret trial on January 20, 2009, Yiliang Court sentenced Ms. Cai to three years in jail. She was moved to Yunnan Number Two Women’s Prison on March 19, 2009. She was released on February 9, 2011.

Ms. Wang Huizhen, 54, began to practice Falun Gong in 1997. On May 30, 2001, police from Kunming Domestic Security Division ransacked her home and took her to Kunming Number One Detention Center. After 37 days in detention, she was sent to Yunnan Women’s Labor Camp to serve a two-year term. She was released on August 18, 2002. While handing out Falun Gong flyers in Kunming Xihua Park on September 2, 2003, she was arrested and taken to Yanjiadi Police Department. Police from Guandu District Domestic Security interrogated her and ransacked her home. She was taken to Kunming Number Two Detention Center in the evening. After eight months, she was handed a four-year sentence and taken to Yunnan Number Two Woman’s Prison on May 8, 2004. She was released on December 1, 2006.

While handing out Falun Gong flyers in Courtyard Ten near Yunxing Road On April 22, 2008, Ms. Wang was reported by a security guard and taken to Yongchang Police Department. The next day, she was taken to Xishan District Detention Center. On October 10, 2008, she was sentenced to four years in prison by Kunming Intermediate Court. She was released on June 22, 2011, after serving three years.

Ms. Miao Qing and Ms. Jiang Yunnan Arrested

While traveling home on May 4, 2012, Ms. Miao Qing and Ms. Jiang Yunnan were stopped by police from Kunming Guandu Domestic Security Division. After the officers found Shen Yun DVD’s in their bags, they handcuffed the two and confiscated their keys. After searching their homes, they took computers, more DVD’s, and Falun Gong books.

At 1 a.m. the following day, Ms. Miao was taken to Guandu Air Force Hospital for a physical to qualify for further detention. After failing the exam, the detention center refused to take her; the police then sent her home.

Other Arrests in Kunming

On May 7, 2012, Practitioners Fu Guolan, Wu and Luo were arrested by Guandu Domestic Security police. Their homes were also searched.

Ms. Pu Baoyu has been missing since May 4, 2012. Ms. Pu, 54, is retired. She was arrested by Guandu police in 2005 and subsequently sentenced to three years in jail. While in Number Two Women’s Prison, she was confined to a maximum security cell for 42 days, during which she was barred from washing, bathing, and changing clothes. Her toilet breaks were limited to four times a day, and she was forced to sit on a small stool for long hours, causing open sores on her buttocks to ooze.

On May 4, 2012, Jianshui County Domestic Police and 610 Office personnel ransacked the homes of six practitioners and arrested all six. They included Ma Xuyong, Wang Hui, and Yang Liwen.

On May 4, 2012, police arrested Ms. Liu Fengmei, 48, and searched her home. They also searched the home of Ms. Yu Yanping, in her 70s, and confiscated a computer, two MP3’s, a cell phone, Dafa books, and flyers.

Domestic Security officers arrived at Ms. Li Zhuxiu’s house on May 4, 2012. After searching, they walked away with Falun Gong books, a computer, some DVD’s, and a cell phone.
