Young Practitioner: Changing My Attitude about Hardship

Aug. 11, 2012 |   By a young practitioner from Australia

(Minghui.org) I am a nine-year-old girl from a family of practitioners who currently live in South Australia. I have been practicing Falun Dafa all my life.

A couple of months ago I was standing on my windowsill staring at the moon in the sky. When I tried to get down, I fell and tried to catch myself on my desk, but my hands slipped and my wrist twisted and I heard a crack. I started crying because my wrist hurt really badly. I could hardly breathe because of the pain when I tried to move my wrist. I asked my Mum to take me to the doctor as I was afraid I had broken my wrist.

My mother agreed, as my wrist was quite swollen and I was in a great deal of pain. The next morning before school I went and saw the doctor. The doctor said he thought it could be a sprain but he was not sure. He said I should rest it over the weekend and I should not go to school on Monday. If my wrist had not improved by then, I had to go and see him again and get an x-ray.

From this point onwards I treated my wrist the way an everyday person would: I wrapped it in a bandage and used ice packs and a sling to hold it still. However, the pain did not decrease. I even went with my father to get an x-ray to check if it was broken. It still felt like my arm was stuck into freezing cold water or a fire. I did not know what to do. But then it was World Falun Dafa Day, and my family went to the activities in Adelaide. I handed out fliers and my Mum told me that I should try to do the exercises as it would help my arm. I was afraid to do my exercises because the pain was still very great. But I gritted my teeth and started to do the demonstration of exercise five. After I started, I felt my arm being tickled and the pain went away. I did the rest of the exercises without any pain.

I learned from this experience that I needed to treat my hardship and suffering with a different attitude. As master says in Hong Yin, “Let joy be found in hardship.” (“Tempering the Will” in Hong Yin I, Version A)

I learned that as a practitioner I had to endure my pain and endure my karma. I also realized the Fa was the right path for me to be on.
