Mr. Wang Yuting in Liangshan County, Shandong Province, Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison

Aug. 22, 2012 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) Liangshan County Court in Shandong Province held a trial for Mr. Wang Yuting on July 18, 2012. A lawyer from Beijing skillfully defended Mr. Wang, proclaiming, “Believing in Falun Gong is not a crime.” The court had no response, so the proceedings were adjourned. A few days later, however, the court sentenced Mr. Wang to seven years in prison.

On the night of February 18, 2012, Mr. Wang posted flyers explaining the truth about Falun Gong near the Liangshan County government office. He was reported and arrested by officers from the Middle District Police Station. Han Xingyue, the deputy director of the 610 Office in Liangshan County, and police officers from the Middle, South and North districts went to Mr. Wang's home and ransacked it. They took some of his personal belongings and cash. They also took his wife and son to the police station. His wife and son were released after 4 a.m.

During Mr. Wang's trial on the morning of July 18 in Liangshan County Court, his Beijing attorney pled “not-guilty” on his behalf according to the regulations of the procuratorate. It caused the prosecutors to take back their original words. The prosecutors finally understood that Falun Gong is not a cult and also admitted that there is no law in China that accuses Falun Gong of being a cult.

Since the prosecutors admitted that Falun Gong is not a cult, they could not charge Mr. Wang Yuting with “Using an evil cult to undermine the implementation of the law.” However, the court did not pronounce Mr. Wang “not guilty” or release him, they simply adjourned the proceedings. A few days later, the Liangshan County Court, which is under the control of the Political and Legal Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, ignored the law and sentenced Mr. Wang to seven years in prison.
