Futian District Court in Shenzhen City Sentences Mr. Li Hongzhou to Four-year Prison Term

Sept. 20, 2012 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Guangdong Province

(Minghui.org) A Futian District Court judge illegally sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Hongzhou to a four-year prison term in July 2012. Mr. Li is currently appealing the sentence. He was previously held for over a year in a detention center. Mr. Li has not seen his son since his arrest.

Mr. Li was arrested on March 26, 2011, by officers from the Shenzhen Domestic Security Division and the Futian 610 Office. He was taken to the Futian District Detention Center. Since his detention, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities have been trying to have him sentenced. For the first three attempts, Mr. Li's case was rejected by the Procuratorate due to lack of evidence. In August 2011, the Futian 610 Office made its fourth attempt to frame Mr. Li. The first hearing was set for November 3, 2011; the second for February 23, 2012; and the third for March 22, 2012. Lawyers have pointed out that after a case is rejected twice by the Procuratorate, the law requires that it be dropped.

Mr. Li's elderly parents and son rely on him for financial support, but he has now been sentenced to four years of imprisonment. We would like to call on everyone to help Mr. Li.

A Kind Man

Mr. Li, 38, was born in Weinan City, Shaanxi Province. As a child, he suffered from severe headaches every day at around 10:00 p.m. He also had stomachaches that caused him to vomit. Despite many visits to the hospital and trying different types of qigong exercises, these symptoms persisted. However, after he learned Falun Gong, they completely disappeared.

Mr. Li is well liked by his friends. He is always ready to help and is fair and kind in dealing with people. He closely follows the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He works diligently and was rated an outstanding employee by several companies where he worked. His current employer has been struggling financially and can't pay workers' salaries on time. As a result, many people have quit. However, none of the employees who work under Mr. Li wanted to leave the company because of the good relations they have with him. The company is very appreciative of Mr. Li.

Several years ago, Mr. Li worked for an Australian company. His boss liked his character and his work ethic. When he was persecuted by the CCP, his boss went to the police station to bail him out and didn't see anything wrong with him practicing Falun Gong.

Arrested and Persecuted Again

More than ten people from the 610 Office and the Fuqianlu Police Station forced their way into Mr. Li's home at around 9:00 a.m. on March 26, 2011, without showing any identification or official warrant. Mr. Li and his wife, Tang Qinghua were arrested, and personal items including a laptop computer that Mr. Li uses at work were confiscated. Mr. Li's wife was later released because she was pregnant.

Mr. Li's parents live on a farm in Shaanxi Province. His father suffered a mental breakdown after hearing about his imprisonment. Mr. Li's father took the news badly because he had also been persecuted and endured much hardship during the Cultural Revolution. His mother is in her sixties, and is now the only person financially supporting and taking care of his father by growing vegetables. Before his arrest, Mr. Li often sent money to his parents to help them out. The CCP has destroyed a good family.

Mr. Li has been held for over a year in Shenzhen Futian Detention Center. The arrest warrant sent to his family was a falsified document with no signature.

On February 23, 2012, the Futian District Court in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, indicated that there was not enough evidence to charge Mr. Li. However, on March 22, 2012, the police claimed that they had found “new evidence,” and had the court hold a hearing that very day, but the results were not disclosed.
