Germany: Mr. Lebin Ding Launches Campaign to Rescue His Mother in China (Photos)

Jan. 22, 2013

(Minghui.org) Ms. Ruimei Ma, a Falun Gong practitioner from Rizhao City, Shandong Province, China, was illegally arrested and detained on April 3, 2012 for distributing Falun Gong truth-clarification materials. With support from the German Falun Dafa Association and IGFM (an international human rights organization), her son, Mr. Lebin Ding, started a rescue effort. Ding is currently doing an internship in Germany.

Ms. Ma’s situation has attracted attention from the German public. People from all walks of life, including the media, politicians and human rights organizations, have extended their hands to help. Several weeks ago, IGFM and the Germany Falun Dafa Association jointly launched a postcard campaign. They are calling on people to mail postcards to the labor camp where Ms. Ruimei Ma is detained. The postcard strongly demands the immediate release of Ms. Ma.

Illegally detained in labor camp for distributing truth clarification materials

Ruimei Ma, 45, lives in Yanjia Village in Rizhao City, Shandong Province. She started to practice Falun Gong in 1996. A year later she found herself miraculously recovered from chronic pain which tortured her for years. Moreover, through cultivation of Falun Gong, she became a role model as a wife, a mother and daughter- in- law in the neighbourhood.

On April 3rd, 2012, however, Ruimei Ma was arrested after someone reported her truth-clarifying activity. Her home was then raided without a warrant by a police task force led by Qin Yujing. Her family was constantly harassed and not allowed to visit Ms. Ma during the first two months of her arrest. As she refused to give up her belief in Falun Gong, Ms. Ma was sentenced to 1.5 years in a labor camp. On June 26th 2012, she was secretly transferred to the Shandong 1st Women's Labor Camp.

Brainwashing, Torture, and Slave Labor

It is estimated that two to three hundred Falun Gong practitioners are being detained at the Shandong 1st Women's Labor Camp. The practitioners have been subjected to all kinds of brainwashing and torture. In addition, they are forced to perform slave labor daily to assembly fishing tackle for the Guangwei Fishing Tackle Co., a subsidiary of the Shandong Weihai Guangwei Corporation. The practitioners typically work 15 to 18 hours a day.

Due to torture, Ruimei Ma lost 18 lbs. in a short time. In addition, she was forced to have two medical exams. Such medical exams are very disturbing because many practitioners have been killed for their organs, and there is evidence which show that the 2nd Provincial Hospital in Shandong province has been deeply involved in forced organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners.

Lebin Ding has a Master's degree in Law from a top Chinese university, and he came to Germany for an internship last summer. With support from the German Falun Dafa Association and IGFM, Ding started a campaign to rescue his mother.

Lebin Ding’s rescue effort attracted the attention and support of German people from all walks of life. The Rhine Post, which has 31 local newspapers and 1.1 million readers, interviewed him, and the story about his mother generated strong repercussions in the public and government departments in Germany.

Having read the Rhine Post article, a member of Parliament from the ruling CDU party and two state legislators were very concerned. They wrote letters respectively to Daofang Hao, the director of Shandong No. 1Women's Forced Labor Camp, urging him to release Rui Mei Ma immediately and unconditionally.

Meanwhile, a state senator from the Green Party also expressed his willingness to vigorously support the activities designed to rescue Ms Ruimei Ma. In addition, he is willing to invite the Congressmen from his party to jointly address the Shandong 1st Women's Labor Camp to demand the immediate and unconditional release of Ms. Ma.

IGFM, headquartered in Frankfurt, has been actively following her case and launched a signature drive last October to rescue Ms. Ma.

At the end of December 2012, IGFM and the German Falun Dafa Association jointly launched a postcard campaign to rescue Ms. Ma: Over 10,000 postcard addressed to the Shandong 1st Women's Labor Camp were printed and will be distributed throughout Germany through several channels. They urge German citizens to mail their signed postcards to China to demand the immediate release of Ms. Ma.
