Ms. Ma Yulian from Taian City has been persecuted over the past 14 years because of her determination to continue practicing Falun Gong. She was illegally detained and sentenced to forced labor. In December 2012, she was sentenced to four years in prison by a Taishan District Court. She is now in Shandong Province Women's Prison in Jinan City.

Health Regained after Practicing Falun Gong

Ms. Ma is a former chief of the Financial Section of Taishan Officials' Sanitarium in Shandong Province. Enthusiastic, diligent and helpful, her colleagues held her in high regard. Prior to practicing Falun Gong, she suffered from a brain tumor and her life was at risk.

When there seemed to be no chance to recover, she was introduced to Falun Dafa. Her brain tumor rapidly disappeared after she began to practice. She then realized that Falun Dafa enables people to become physically healthy as well improve their moral standards. What she obtained was actually a high-level Fa.

Talking to People about Falun Gong Leads to Harassment and Arrests

When Jiang Zemin and his followers within the Chinese Communist Party began to persecute Falun Gong, she remained firm in her belief. She was convinced that meeting the requirements of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance was the right thing to do and decided to talk to people about Falun Gong.

At the end of 2002, she was arrested and sent to the Feicheng brainwashing facility as the result of a plot cooked up by Qi Keyin, vice captain of the Domestic Security Division of Taian Municipal Police Department; Zhu Zonghai, political instructor of the so-called Anti-Cult Division of Taian Municipal Police Department; and Zhang Jixuan, Political and Security Section chief of the Taishan District Police Department. The police also raided her home and took cash, a deposit statement card, payroll cards, jewelry, watches, and other items.

There is a Feicheng Armed Police compound in the mountains near the Shiheng Power Plant. Zhang Qinlai, captain of the Domestic Security Division and the Feicheng City Police Department, had a several police officers torture Ms. Ma in the compound. They took off her coat in the winter and handcuffed and shackled her. They did not let her eat, drink, or go to the washroom. They deprived her of sleep and tortured her for six days. They verbally humiliated her. But she did not give up.

Zhu Zonghai orchestrated the persecution of Ms. Ma, although he pretended to be nice to her. He said to the officers, “Why did you do that? Remove the handcuffs and shackles and have her put on a coat.” In fact, Zhu Zonghai just wanted to confuse her. He used such tricks many times in persecuting other practitioners. Without obtaining what they wanted from her, they sent Ms. Ma to Feicheng Detention Center. It was a long way from the gate to the cells in the detention center, but they shackled her hand and foot together, causing her much pain as she walked lamely to the cell.

Three Years of Forced Labor

A month later, she was released. However, she was arrested again at the end of January 2003 and sent directly to Shandong No. 1 Women's Forced Labor Camp in Jinan City, where she endured forced labor for three years.

In the labor camp, she remain unyielding in her belief. She often clarified the facts about Falun Gong to the guards, collaborators, and those who monitored her. She resisted the persecution. As a result, she was held for another month after her three-year term had ended.

After leaving the labor camp, Ma Yulian continued to tell people the facts about Falun Gong. The local Communist Party staff tapped her telephone and tracked her for a lengthy period of time.

Arrested and Sent to Prison

On July 16, 2012, two practitioners came to her home from outside of Taian City and were arrested nearby after they left. On July 18, 2012, Li Xiaoming, vice captain of Domestic Security Division of Tashan District Police Department; Bi, police officer (currently vice captain); Xu Yahui, chief of Yingsheng Police Station; and dozens of police officers surrounded Ms. Ma's home. They raided her home and took Dafa books, printouts about Falun Gong, two computers, two printers, CD burning tower, hard disc, U disk, numerous cell phones, printing material seals, and other items.

Ms. Ma was arrested and interrogated at the Yingsheng Police Station. She was then taken away to the Taian Detention Center. In the detention center, she continued to practice and speak to people about Falun Gong. She tried her best to assist those who were poor and faced challenges.

Under the direction of the local Chinese Community Party, the Taishan District Court put Ms. Ma Yulian on trial in December 2012. When she entered the courtroom in handcuffs and shackles, her soon-to-be-married daughter was in tears. Although the lawyer hired by her family pleaded not guilty on her behalf, she was still sentenced to four years in prison. She has been in Shandong Province Women’s Prison in Jinan City ever since.
