After 16 Months of Detention, Practitioners Sentenced to Prison on Fabricated Evidence

Nov. 16, 2013 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Hebei Province, China

(Minghui.org) After being illegally detained for 16 months, Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Wang Manhong and Mr. Song Guobin from Baoding City were sentenced to prison by the Nanshi District Court based on fabricated evidence. The charges were changed three times and new evidence was made up each time to support the charges.

Ms. Wang appealed to the Baoding City Intermediate Court after the sentence. The court asked her lawyer to submit the defense pleadings, as they preferred to solve the dispute in writing instead of holding another trial.

Nanshi District Court announced the verdict at the end of September 2013. Ms. Wang was sentenced to a three-year prison term and Mr. Song Guobin to two years.

Ms. Wang and Mr. Song were arrested on May 4, 2012, for the same reason: “We arrest you because the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) will soon hold its 18th National Congress, and you might cause trouble. When the Congress is over you will be released.”

However, after the Congress was over, the police continued to detain them. Even after the two had served 16 months in detention, the authorities went to great lengths to fabricate evidence against them. They came up with different versions of the accusations to charge them.
