Huludao Police Harass Supporters of Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Zhang Jinghua

April 1, 2013 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Jinghua from Huluao, Liaoning Province, was illegally sentenced to four years in prison in January 2013. After her family and friends learned of her sentence, they were indignant and determined to support her. They submitted a petition with over 200 signatures to demand her release. Subsequently, they were harassed and threatened by police.

Ms. Zhang had suffered from stomach cancer before practicing Falun Gong, but miraculously recovered through the practice. People in the community respected her for supporting her family amidst tremendous difficulties in life.

Ms. Zhang was arrested for speaking to people about Falun Gong on July 2, 2012. She was tried by the Procuratorate and the court in Nanpiao District on January 9, 2013, and sentenced to four years in prison on January 31.

Upon learning of the petition to rescue Ms. Zhang, the Political and Legal Affairs Committee, 610 Office, procuratorate, court and Bureau of Justice in Liaoning Province colluded with the local police to threaten the people who have signed the petition. They demanded these citizens to sign a statement promising “not to practice Falun Gong, not support Falun Gong, and not participate in such things in the future.”

Officers from the Sanjiazi Police Station, Gangyaoling Police Station and Nuanchitang Police Station participated in this effort. Some people were harassed up to three times. Policemen also attempted to confiscate the original copies of signatures and corresponding fingerprints on the petition from Ms. Zhang's family members.

Ms. Zhang submitted an appeal to Huludao Intermediate Court on February 8, 2013. Her second trial was scheduled for 2 p.m. on March 26.
