(Minghui.org) Around 6 a.m. on June 11, 2011, police barged into the rented house of Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Wang Aiying and Mr. Wang Hongliang and illegally arrested them. The couple was incarcerated in the Wuan City Detention Center in Hebei Province.
Officers from the Chenguan Police Station, including Zhang Aibin, and Wuan City Domestic Security Division, including captain Zhang Lihua and He Xubin, made the arrests. They also ransacked the couple's residence and confiscated various personal belongings, as well as 14,900 yuan in cash.
Zhao Bo and Yu Weiping from Wuan City Procuratorate prosecuted the husband and wife without even interviewing them. In February 2012, judge Chen Jianguo from the Wuan City First Criminal Court secretly sentenced Ms. Wang to 4 years and Mr. Wang to 3 years in prison. Neither their defense lawyer nor their family were informed. Family members learned about the sentence in March 2012 after calling the Wuan City First Criminal Court.
In September 2012, both practitioners appealed to the Handan City Intermediate Court. The court decided that a retrial was needed due to a lack of evidence.
Mr. Wang was finally released on February 2, 2013, after being detained for 20 months. Ms. Wang, however, was still detained at the Handan City First Detention Center, where she has been grossly mistreated.
A second trial for Ms. Wang was held on March 1, 2013, at the Wuan City Second Criminal Court in Handan District. The trial lasted from 9:30 to 10:30 in the morning.
The defense lawyer argued that the defendant did not violate any law. After the prosecutor, Yu Weiping, presented his case, the defense lawyer pointed out that his testimony also indicated that no law had been violated. The prosecutor left without making further statements.
Presiding judge Dong Guanghui did not pass any sentence. Yet, Ms. Wang has not be released.
Lawlessness in Wuhan City
For years, the cases in Wuan City Court have been mishandled by officials who do not obey the law. According to an incomplete statistics report, from 1999 to 2012 the Wuan Procuratorate and the 610 Office have illegally sentenced 11 Falun Gong practitioners, sent to forced labor camps 46 practitioners, and detained over 1,000 practitioners; they also collected unwarranted fines totaling over 500,000 yuan. The actual numbers are believed to be much higher, since much of the information is not reported due to Internet blockage and fear of retaliation.
From 1999 to 2012, the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong reported that at least 50 government officials in Wuan City were suspected of conducting illegal and corrupt activities. A number of them have been fired and sentenced after being exposed, but many remain.
