Practitioners Charged with “Leaking State Secrets” for Exposing Torture Methods in Chinese Labor Camps and Prisons

July 4, 2013 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Shandong province, China

(Minghui.org) In order to expose the torture of Falun Gong practitioners in Chinese labor camps and prisons, practitioners in Qingdao posed for photographs illustrating those tortures. In retaliation, the Qingdao 610 Office arrested numerous Falun Gong practitioners on May 2, 2013, charging them with “leaking state secrets.”

Practitioners Ms. Lu Xueqin, Ms. Cui Luning, Mr. Yang Naijian, Ms. Liu Xiuzhen, Mr. Li Hao and others were detained. Ms. Lu's family hired an attorney for her. However, her attorney was not permitted to see Ms. Lu. Ms. Cui, Mr. Yang, Ms. Liu and Mr. Li's attorneys had the same experience. The reason was because the practitioners supposedly “leaked state secrets.”

Ms. Lu's family received an arrest notice from the Shuiqinggou Police Station on June 9. The reason for the arrest was “using a heretical organization to undermine the implementation of law.” That same day, police officer Zhao Liang from the Liutingbianfang Police Station of the Chengyang District, gave Mr. Yang's arrest warrant to Mr. Yang's father, Yang Youxin. Mr. Yang was also charged with “using a heretical organization to undermine the implementation of law.” Mr. Yuan Shaohua's family also received the same charge.

Ms. Lu's family went to the Shuiqinggou Police Station and talked to police officer Wang Wei (ID number 024639) at 9 a.m. on June 14. They wanted to know the legal justification for preventing their attorney from meeting with Ms. Lu. Wang said that no visitation was allowed because Ms. Lu was arrested for “leaking state secrets and attempting to overthrow the government.” Ms. Lu's family countered that the arrest warrant stated that Ms. Lu was charged with “using a heretical organization to undermine the implementation of law,” and according to legal procedures, visitations should be allowed. Wang Wei replied that the charge could be changed; it would only need a signature, and then immediately instructed a policeman (ID number 111956) to change it. Ms. Lu's family asked Wang Wei, “How can you freely charge and make an arrest of common citizens like us?” Wang retorted, “We can re-issue the charge, you just have to sign it.”

Mr. Liu Xiuzhen and Mr. Yang Naijian's arrest warrants were also changed to “attempting to overthrow the government” on June 14. The police intimidated Ms. Liu's brother into signing the warrant.
