A Glimpse of the Current Status of China's Political and Legal Affairs Committee

Aug. 31, 2013

(Minghui.org) Over the past 14 years, the Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC) has played a critical role in carrying out the persecution of Falun Gong. The committee receives its orders from the 610 Office and works with other agencies to implement the Party's policy of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. As more and more people have come to know the truth, however, many officials have had a change of heart. Below are some examples.

Nobody Wants to Be Party Head

In one county of Hebei Province, one party head vacated his post, but nobody wanted to fill the position. It was said that the position would probably just remain vacant.

Many PLAC officials are now worried about their futures. Some people have said that the committee will be disassembled. Without intervention from the PLAC, the courts now have the authority to process cases independently. The committee still has a liaison office that handles legal issues and appeals. But the office is just for for show since it has never accepted people who come to appeal. Even the officials themselves are embarrassed by this farce.

Once when a practitioner went to his county's PLAC office, he explained the true situation about Falun Gong and the persecution to an official, who promptly quit his membership with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Police Release Falun Gong Practitioners

When two elderly practitioners went to the countryside on July 31, 2013, to clarify the truth about the situation of Falun Gong, local people were excited and readily accepted materials. However, someone reported them to the police and a police van soon arrived.

The two practitioners were invited to hide in a resident's house, but they did not do so in order to avoid bringing trouble to the family. Two police officers then asked them to get into the car. One of them refused since they had not violated any laws: They had simply arrived there to tell others about the persecution of Falun Gong, she said.

A police officer said, “We came here because someone reported you. But we will release you soon.” One of the practitioners asked if they were certain that they'd do so. The officer said, “Yes—you and my mother are almost the same age.”

The two practitioners got into the police van and continued to clarify truth to them. They reminded the officers that practitioners are good people, and that blessings are the reward for treating them well. They also told the officers that it was only Falun Gong that kept them healthy at the age of 70.

The officers then released the practitioners and reported to their headquarters that the practitioners had gotten away from them.

Passersby Offering Help

“One practitioner and I went out one day in 2012 to distribute Shen Yun DVDs, and the practitioner I was with began talking to a college student about Falun Gong. The student, however, reported us to the police, and he also held the practitioner's arm so she couldn't walk away.

“A long time passed but no police came. Many people gathered around us to see what was happening. Then some commuters stopped and three people came up to us. One middle-aged man asked about the situation, and the college student said he wanted the Falun Gong practitioners to be arrested.

“Seeing the 20-year-old student was being so rough with us two elderly ladies, the man became angry. He said, 'What is wrong with you? How you can treat them like this? Falun Gong is good, and even one of my friends practices it. I will give you a lesson.'

“With that, he lunged at the student. The college student was immediately scared and ran way. The other passersby were pleased to see the results and we returned home safely.”
