Ms. Wang Lianzhen Secretly Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

Aug. 6, 2013 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Gansu Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Lianzhen from Gansu Province was illegally arrested in July 2012. The police also ransacked her home. Ms. Wang was sentenced to three years in prison for her belief in Falun Gong.

Officers from the Baiyin City and Jingtai County police departments and officials from the Political and Legal Affairs Committee arrested Ms. Wang and several other Falun Gong practitioners in July 2012. All of the practitioners were incarcerated at the Baiyin City Detention Center.

The Jingtai County Court tried Ms. Wang several months later. The judge told her family that Ms. Wang would be released if she wrote a statement to renounce her belief; otherwise, she would be sentenced to prison.

Ms. Wang stated calmly in court, “I did not violate any law, and it is not wrong to be a good person based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance [the guiding principles of Falun Gong].”

The judge had nothing to say and asked Ms. Wang what she wanted. Ms. Wang asked to be acquitted. The judge adjourned the trial.

Several months later, Ms. Wang's family received a notice from Lanzhou Women's Prison that Ms. Wang had been sentenced to three years in prison.

The Baiyin City Court, Jingtai County Court and Procuratorate are now planning to put the other practitioners on trial.
