Eliminating Attachments to Fame, Benefits, Sentimentality, Selfishness and Lust

Sept. 2, 2013 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner from Jining, Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) A few days ago while meditating, I saw through my Celestial Eye a wooden cage in front of my lower body. It was a rectangular cage with thick, round, wooden bars the size of an arm. A square opening was on top of the cage. It looked like one of those cages used to transport criminals during the Middle Ages, except that the space between each wooden bar was very narrow. The wood was dirty and worn; some bars had tree barks attached and some did not.

I did not understand the reason for seeing this. I shook my head and opened my eyes. The same scene appeared when I closed my eyes again. It felt as if I was floating just above the cage.

I looked up and saw a lot of people; every one of them had a similar cage in front of them. Then the cage started to spin slowly and five words appeared: “fame, benefits, sentimentality, selfishness, lust.”

I understood the message: In front of every cultivator is a cage, and it is made up of attachments to fame, benefits, sentimentality, selfishness and lust. Especially near the end of the Fa-rectification period, we all need to carefully exam ourselves and see if we are still prisoners in this cage. If we cannot let go of our attachments and leap out from this cage, we cannot go back to our true home with Master.

During my recent interactions with fellow practitioners, I noticed that many of them were affected by these attachments. Some appeared depressed; not only were they not diligent in their cultivation, but they also could not fulfill their duty of saving sentient beings.

Some practitioners felt distrust toward other practitioners and could not act as part of one body. Some stayed home for fear of personal loses. Some had fallen deeply in love and could not extricate themselves from sentimentality.

We need to be alert. We must not let these attachments from the lower realms bury our true self, and we must not relax in our cultivation. Otherwise, we will miss the opportunity to save ourselves and sentient beings!
