Dry Cleaning Store Owner Arrested

Jan. 11, 2014 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Hubei Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Zhu Chunmei was arrested by over ten officers from the Zhangwan Police Department on August 26, 2013. Her arrest was approved on October 30. She is currently detained in the Shiyan City Detention Center. Her case has been returned to the police department by the procuratorate.

Ms. Zhu owns two dry cleaning stores in Wuhan City. On August 26, she went to Shiyan City on business and stayed with her friend, Ms. Xiong Yuqin. When she went out at night, officers from the Zhangwan Police Department in Shiyan City arrested her.

Ms. Zhu was detained in the Wuyan Brainwashing Center from August 27 until September 29, then transferred to the Shiyan City Detention Center. Her family traveled from Wuhan City to Shiyan several times to get her released, but they were unsuccessful. Ms. Xiong Yuqin, Ms. Zhu's friend, was also arrested the same night.

Ms. Zhu was primarily responsible for the rescue of practitioner Xu Xudong. She exposed the crimes of the Shiyan City Political and Legal Affairs Committee and clarified the facts of Falun Gong to local people and governments.

Store Ransacked, Neighbors Questioned

On September 11, one of Ms. Zhu's drying cleaning stores was ransacked by the Shiyan City Police Department, the Wuhan City Police Department, and the Shanghailu Police Station from the Jiang'an District Police Department. They have been monitoring the store full-time since then.

At her second dry cleaning store, they collected information about people living nearby. On September 13, practitioner Ms. Li Jili, who lives close to the store, was arrested and taken to the Chenjiaji Brainwashing Center in the Jiang'an District.

Mental and Physical Abuse

In the Wuyan Brainwashing Center, Ms. Zhu was monitored 24-7. There were always three or four people surrounding her, including police officer Xie Jun, 610 Office director Xia, and some specialists from Beijing. They tried to brainwash her and pressure her to write a statement giving up her belief.

Ms. Zhu also suffered physical torture. She was often handcuffed to a bed or chair, then beaten and kicked. To keep anyone from hearing her screams, the police restrained her 24-7 in an isolated room on the second floor.

At the same time, the Zhangwan District Police Department interrogated her repeatedly to collect "evidence" against her. They even set up a special office for that purpose in the brainwashing center. The torture severely damaged Ms. Zhu's health. She almost lost consciousness and was later hospitalized.

After being persecuted for a month in the brainwashing center, she was transferred to the Shiyan City Detention Center on September 29. The arrest was approved on October 30.

The Zhangwan District Police Department attempted to sue Ms. Zhu and five other Falun Gong practitioners who were arrested in Shiyan City: Zhao Jiali, Zeng Hairong, He Zhihong, Xiong Yuqin, and Wang Dongmei. The procuratorate has returned Ms. Zhu's case to the police department for “more investigation.”
