Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Sun Yanxia, her husband Mr. Han Jianping, Ms. Fu Guihua and her daughter Xiaoyan were arrested at Ms. Fu's home around 9 a.m. on June 3, 2013.

They were taken to the Nongan Police Department, where they were interrogated and tortured. The police intended to frame them for making Falun Gong banners which were hung in a residential area in Changchun on May 13.

As a result of the torture, Ms. Sun Yanxia was diagnosed with early stage cirrhosis, and a tumor was found in her pelvis. She frequently fainted and her body often felt numb. Her physical condition was weak and her platelet and white blood cell counts were low. She has had two heart attacks.

The persecution Ms. Sun suffered includes being slapped in the face, tied to an iron chair and her legs crushed with a long steel bar, kicked by the police with hard leather shoes, struck hard in her face and head, slammed against the wall, as well as other tortures such as “flying an airplane.” Ms. Sun's leg was broken during the torture.

Ms. Sun's family members have hired an attorney to sue Tang Ke and Lu Mingxuan from the Domestic Security Division, who are responsible for her persecution.

Below is Ms. Sun's recollection of the persecution she suffered during the interrogation:

I was taken to the interrogation room of the Nongan County Domestic Security Division after I was arrested on June 3. I was forced to sit in an iron chair.

Tang Ke, the head of the Domestic Security Division, came in. He slapped my face and kicked my thighs with his leather shoes. “I was kicking your husband like this!” he said in a very arrogant way.

Another police officer came in. He asked me: “How many Falun Gong banners did you make? Where are the tools you used to make the banners? Where are the banners now?”

I answered: “I didn't do it. I don't know anything.”

He was trying to crush my feet with his heel. He stomped on the edge of my thighs, which were resting against the iron chair. While beating me, he kept asking me questions. I tried my best to ignore the pain and keep my mind clear.

“I have nothing to say.” That's the only answer I gave him.

Tang Ke came back half an hour later. He slapped me in the face again. He cuffed my hands to the back of the chair, and then inserted a steel bar, as long as three feet, into both arms of the chair, and began to push the steel bar against my thighs. My legs became numb and lost feeling after a period of intense pain.

Tang Ke lifted my arms from the back. When he couldn't lift further, he suddenly dropped them. He repeated this several times until I had difficulty breathing.

He found a wooden stick and began to beat my lower legs up and down for half an hour. He also stabbed my ankle with the sharp end of the stick. I didn't say anything.

Another officer came in and continued to interrogate me with questions related to the banners.

I told him, “I didn't participate in this, and I don't know anything about it.” That officer was frustrated, and began to verbally abuse me.

Half an hour later, Tang Ke came back and said: “Your husband told us everything. Why don't you say anything?”

I knew he was trying to bait me, so I didn't answer him. Seeing that I still refused to give them any information, he slapped my face again.

He hit my neck with a plastic bottle of water for about ten minutes, and then poured the water onto my face. He tortured me until 3 or 4 p.m. and then left.

Torture Re-enactment: Iron Chair

An officer named Zhou Dahai came at midnight. As soon as he came in, he slapped me in the face. He grabbed my hair, and beat my face and head with a bottle of water. He also poured the water onto my face. He did that twice. When he stopping beating me, I couldn't move my neck anymore.

I was left on the iron chair for the entire night. My legs and feet swelled up very badly and it was extremely painful if I moved my body just a little bit.

Tang Ke came back the next morning around 8 a.m.. He slapped my face, grabbed my hair and threw me into the wall. He kept interrogating me, and I still kept telling him: “I didn't do it.”

He brought me to another room, and my husband was there. He had also been tortured and interrogated. After being allowed a glance of my husband, I was brought back to the first room.

Next, Tang Ke pushed me face down to the ground. He lifted my arms and suddenly dropped them again. He repeated this torture several times and punched me in the spine for half an hour.

After he left, another police officer came in and said to me: “If you don't say anything, we will arrest your daughters and detain them.”

“This has nothing to do with them.” I said.

That officer started to kick my thighs hard. My right thigh immediately became black and blue. I was rolling on the ground in pain.

He kept threatening me with the safety of my two daughters.

“Please spare my daughters.” I said.

I “admitted” all the information they made up—that I made the Falun Gong banners, how many and when I made them, who made the banners with me, and whom I gave those banners to.

A person from the Changchun Domestic Security Division videotaped the entire process.

The police took me to the Changchun No.3 Detention Center on the evening of June 4. I have been detained there ever since.
