(Minghui.org) Barely two and a half years after his release from a seven-year illegal imprisonment, a former player on the Yunnan Province Men's Tennis Team was arrested again in September 2013 for producing materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong.
Mr. Han Zhenkun (韩震昆), 49, was recently sentenced to four years for “using a cult organization to sabotage law enforcement,” a common pretext used by the Chinese Communist Party to frame and prosecute Falun Gong practitioners. His family was not notified of the verdict until they inquired with the court.
Mr. Han is currently being held at the Xishan Detention Center, which has denied his parents their visitation rights. His wife Ms. Guo Juan (郭娟), who was arrested at the same time as he, was sentenced to three years. Prior to the latest arrest, she once served three years from 2004 to 2007, also for making Falun Gong-related materials.
Latest Arrest and Imprisonment
Mr. Han was hosting a gathering for local practitioners to study Falun Gong books together on September 16, 2013 when a group of plainclothes policemen showed up at his door.
These agents from the Xishan District Domestic Security Division found their way by following Mr. Han's guests.
Upon entering the house, officer Qiu Xueyan said, “There are so many people gathering at your house. We've been watching you for a long time!”
He also told the Han family that if they did not cooperate, he would call for more reinforcements.
All ten guests were allowed to leave after they wrote down their names and home address. The police then took out a blank search warrant, filled it out, and started searching the house. They confiscated personal items such as Falun Gong books and related materials, computer equipment, and 18,000 yuan in cash which had Falun Gong-related information written on it.
After the search, officer Qiu made a phone call and summoned five more policemen. They claimed that they were from the Liujiaying Police Station and took Mr. Han away with them. Qiu and his team left as well.
When Mr. Han's father went to the police station to ask for his son, the police on duty told him that Mr. Han was not there. The next day, Officer Yang Yunxiang from Xishan District Domestic Security Division informed Mr. Han's mother that he was at the Xishan District Detention Center. He then asked her to sign the detention paper, which he took away later.
Officer Qiu refused to speak with Mr. Han's parents when they went to Xishan District Domestic Security Division on September 19, 2013.
Without informing the family, the court charged Mr. Han with “using a cult organization to undermine law enforcement” and sentenced him to four years of imprisonment. His term starts on September 16, 2013 and ends on September 15, 2017.
First Arrest and Sentence
On April 23, 2004, Mr. Han and his wife, Ms. Guo Juan were arrested at their home and numerous personal items were taken away. They were detained in the detention center for one month before the arrest was approved.
The couple was later sentenced, with Mr. Han receiving seven years and Ms. Guo three years.
Mr. Han was forced to do manual labor in the prison for long hours. While in the prison, he refused to be transformed and declined to write a “guarantee” to give up Falun Gong.
Release and Continued Harassment
Mr. Han was released on April 22, 2011 and began work. However, he couldn't stay for long in each job, as his employers were under external pressure not to employ him – simply because he practices Falun Gong.
On May 29, 2012, seven plainclothes police broke into Mr. Han's house. Upon entering, one of the them shouted, “We've told you not to make any more Falun Gong related materials. Now we're going to take them away!”
As he spoke, he started taking photos while the others raided the house. They took Mr. Han away together with many of the Han family's personal belongings.
