(Minghui.org) The sight of thousands of people doing the gentle Falun Gong exercises in public parks was once commonplace across China. However, once the communist regime started its violent persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, practicing the same meditation exercises often resulted in being arrested, tortured, and imprisoned.
A woman from Harbin, Heilongjiang Province was sentenced to three years in prison for “planning to do Falun Gong exercises” in a park. The prison refused to admit her, citing her poor health, which resulted from the torture she suffered while in detention.
Ms. Fu Hui (付辉) was arrested at Shenyang Train Station in Liaoning Province on March 21, 2013 and detained at the Shenyang Detention Center, where guards shocked her with electric batons and hammered toothpicks under her fingernails.
Ms. Fu was still being held at the detention center at the time of this writing. Her mother unsuccessfully tried to visit her, before learning that she was receiving daily treatment at the No. 739 Hospital.

Ms. Fu was arrested along with 12 other Falun Gong practitioners in March 2013. Some had already started doing the exercises in a Shenyang park, while others, including Ms. Fu, were arrested en route to the park.
The 13 practitioners were tried on March 18, 2014. Ms. Fu fainted during the trial. The judge resumed the trial on April 15 without Ms. Fu present. Two other practitioners collapsed at the hearing, most likely due to injuries sustained while in police custody.
The court later sent its verdict to the detention center, where Ms. Fu learned of her three-year sentence.
