Husband Refuses to Pay Bribe, Wife Put on Trial

Dec. 20, 2014 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Guangdong Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Yu Daoping (于道萍) from Shenzhen was put on trial on November 25, 2014, because she practices Falun Gong.

Ms. Yu announced in court that the confession used to indict her was invalid, as it was extracted by police under false pretenses.

Ms. Yu's husband was led out of the courtroom after he refuted the prosecutor's groundless allegations against his wife.

Her lawyer also entered a “not guilty” plea for Ms. Yu and pointed out that practicing Falun Gong is not illegal according to Chinese law. He asked for Ms. Yu's immediate release.

However, the judge called for an adjournment and announced that they would make the decision later.

Arrest and Extortion

Ms. Yu was arrested at home in July 2014. Her home was ransacked, and personal property, including Dafa books, her cell phone, and computer, was confiscated.

After the arrest, Ms. Yu's family went to the local police station to ask for her release, but officer Shen Liguo hinted that they had to pay them first.

Because he refused to pay a bribe, Ms. Yu's husband was harassed and threatened many times by Shen Liguo. The constant harassing phone calls put great stress on Mr. Yu's husband, who suffers from schizophrenia.
