(Minghui.org) Mr. Chen Fu, a Falun Gong practitioner from Sujiatun District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, was put on trial on January 21, 2014, at the Dongling District Court. His lawyers were not allowed in the courtroom. The judge was forced to adjourn the trial.

Illegal Proceedings

Over a dozen officers with red bands on their arms, as well as plainclothes police, patrolled the area outside the courthouse. Police were also stationed inside the courthouse. Whoever went into the building had to show their identification, and their bags were checked.

Mr. Chen's family had hired two defense lawyers. The police wanted to check the lawyers' bags, but the lawyers refused. They told the officers that their demands were in violation of China's Supreme Court regulations, which state that defendants' attorneys can enter the courthouse without undergoing a security check.

In the end, the two lawyers were not allowed to attend the trial.

The illegal trial began at 9:50 a.m. Judge Jiang Junwei asked Mr. Chen, “Do you admit to asking a worker who had a cold sore on her face to recite, 'Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance is good,' when you worked in Shenyang City last year?” Mr. Chen replied, “As my lawyers aren't here, I refuse to answer your questions.”

The judge continued: “Do you admit that you invited a homeless Falun Gong practitioner for a meal and encouraged him to be diligent in his practice? You also gave him a DVD disc, did you not?” Mr. Chen again said, “I refuse to answer because my lawyers aren't here.”

The judge then asked the clerk of the court to record the discussion and then adjourned the trial.
