Procurator Reluctant to Read Indictment for Falun Gong Practitioner

Feb. 17, 2014 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Heilongjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) When Mr. Liu Shiquan and his wife, Ms. Cao Lingfeng, were tried in Heilongjiang Province last month, the procurator appeared to be reluctant to read the indictment.

Officers from the Kunlun Police Station in Yichun City and Qin Handong from the 610 Office arrested the couple at their home in September 2013. They confiscated a printer, a notebook computer, and Falun Dafa informational materials.

Mr. Liu and Ms. Cao, both Falun Gong practitioners, were put on trial in the Jinshantun District Court on January 13, 2014. One of the two procurators, Shen Xingfu, was charged with reading the indictment, but he seemed to be very reluctant to do it.

First he said he needed to use the restroom and then he said he wanted to take a lunch break. However, judge Zhang Haitao forced him to finish reading the charges. When Shen came to the word “cult,” he muttered: “I should not say 'cult informational materials,' Let's just say 'the Falun Gong information materials' instead.”

The chief judge asked the couple a couple of questions. Zhang announced that the sentence would be pronounced at another time.

The couple is being held in the Xilin Detention Center.
