(Minghui.org) Mr. Fang Zhengping's parents filed a state compensation claim to the Kunming Intermediate People's Court on January 19, 2014 for Mr. Fang, who died at the age of 60 in the Yunnan No. 1 Prison on April 1, 2013.
According to the attorney representing the family, the prison's dereliction of duty led to the unnatural death of Mr. Fang.
The lawyers, hired by Mr. Fang's parents to seek justice for the family, requested the prison to provide 12 specific documents related to the death including Mr. Fang's physical exam reports and autopsy report. They have not gotten a response from the prison since the request was made on August 30, 2013. Subsequently, the family filed a compensation claim to the prison on October 14, 2013.
While the prison personnel did not respond to the claim, the prison and the Bureau of Prisons in Yunnan Province mailed a letter and dispatched representatives to the Bureau of Justice, requesting the Bureau not to renew the lawyers' licenses at their annual inspection.
The prison administration informed Mr. Fang's wife of his death 36 days after the fact in April 2013, and denied her request of viewing the body before the cremation.
