Ms. Shi Jinhua, 73, was illegally sentenced to four years in prison on October 25, 2010. She is detained at the Shanghai Prison, where she has been relentlessly tortured. Although her life is now in danger, the prison still refuses to let her son visit her.

The guards have used torture in an attempt to “transform” Ms. Shi and make her renounce Falun Gong. They have forced her to stand for long periods of time daily, to the point that Ms. Shi fell down and fainted.
Ms. Shi has developed edema and blood clots in her legs as a result of the abuse. Nevertheless, she has remained steadfast in her belief.
Newly appointed director Peng declared, “We will use more severe methods and revoke family visitation rights until Ms. Shi is 'transformed.'”
Illegally Sentenced
Ms. Shi is known as a kind and hardworking woman. Her husband died young and she raised their three sons by herself. She became ill from the burden that she was carrying, but regained her health after beginning to practice Falun Gong at the end of 1998.
Ms. Shi went to visit her son in Shanghai in 2010. While there, she mailed out some letters explaining the facts about Falun Gong and the persecution. The Minhang police arrested her on June 4, 2010, upon her return home to Yidong County, Hunan Province. They took her to the Minhang Detention Center in Shanghai.
The Minhang Court secretly tried and sentenced Ms. Shi to four years in prison on October 25, 2010. The court did not notify her family. When her defense lawyer brought the power of attorney, provided by her family, to the Minhang Detention Center on October 29, requesting to see Ms. Shi, the guards did not allow him to meet with his client.
Tortured in Shanghai Prison
Because she refused to renounce her belief, from August 24 to September 10, 2011, the guards instigated inmates to slap her in the face and force her to stand for long periods of time. By the time her son came to visit her, Ms. Shi had only 3 teeth left; the rest had fallen out from the abuse.
When the six criminals assigned to persecute her could no longer stand it, they forged her name on a document and gave it to the director, temporarily ceasing to abuse Ms. Shi.
Torture re-enactment: Death Bed
At the beginning of 2012, Ms. Shi was tied to a “death bed,” which caused her health to deteriorate further. The guards forced her to ingest unknown substances and tortured her repeatedly for 2 days and 2 nights. When her family visited her afterward, they saw scars on her hands and suspected that she was being abused.
Since the Chinese communist regime began to persecute Falun Gong, Ms. Shi has been detained 14 times. She has been severely beaten and tortured, yet she has no fear. She only hopes that people will realize the lies spread by the regime and come to understand the truth about Falun Gong and the persecution.
