Gansu Province: Farmer Detained, Daughter Harassed to Provide Evidence Against Him

March 2, 2014 |   By a Minghui correspondent from Gansu Province, China

(Minghui.org) The local authorities of Huining County, Gansu Province arrested Mr. Liu Haixue at his home on January 27, 2014, and threatened his daughter to provide evidence against him. Mr. Liu's arrest has left his younger son fearful and on his own during the Chinese New Year holiday season from January 28 to February 15.

Huining County Police Department and Baiyuan Station filed criminal charges against Mr. Liu on January 28 and moved him to Huining County Jail at around 5 p.m.

An innocent 58-year-old man was targeted just because he practices Falun Gong. Those who collaborated in Mr. Liu's arrest are now collecting evidence to have him sentenced.

At about noon on January 27, 2014, Zhang Xiaoping, the Domestic Security Division chief of Huining County Police Station; Li Zhongtai, director of the Baiyuan Police Station; and five other police officers broke into Mr. Liu's home.

At that time, Mr. Liu was grazing sheep outside of the township, so the police waited in his home till he returned and then detained him in the Baiyuan station. The authorities also ransacked his house and confiscated all of his Falun Gong books, a computer, and a printer. When his wife heard about it, she fled the township to avoid her own arrest.

That same day, the police went to the barbershop in Baiyuan Township owned by Mr. Liu's daughter and searched it for “evidence.” Finding nothing of value, they took his daughter to the Baiyuan police station for interrogation and pressured her to provide evidence to incriminate her father by saying, “If you don't cooperate with us, we can take your home computer to the county police station. If they find anything (against the regime) on your computer, criminal charges will be filed against you.”

This was not the first time Mr. Liu has been persecuted.

In August 2008, people from the Huining County 610 Office, Huining County Police Domestic Security Division, Baiyuan Police Station, and officials with the local township went to Mr. Liu's house to arrest his wife for practicing Falun Gong. She escaped.

The authorities pressured Mr. Liu to find her and hand her over to the authorities, so the couple fled and were homeless for over two years.

Mr. Liu began to practice Falun Gong in 1997 in an attempt to heal his bad lower back pain that had been with him for many years. He could hardly move when the pain was severe. It gradually disappeared after he practiced Falun Gong.
