(Minghui.org) Mr. Li Hao was arrested and incarcerated just before his wife was due to give birth. Although she was pressured by the police to throw Ms. Zheng Zhongyun out, their landlady let her stay until the baby was born.
Ms. Zheng and her eight-month-old are now homeless, her father has disowned her to escape harassment, and she has no source of income.
Mr. Li Arrested, "Confesses" to Keep His Wife and Unborn Child Safe
Agents from the Qingdao City 610 Office and police officers arrested Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Hao from Qingdao City on May 2, 2013. He has been incarcerated ever since. Mr. Li's wife was pregnant and very close to her due date at the time.
On the day he was arrested, officers went to his house that evening. One of them yelled at his wife, Ms. Zheng, “If you weren't pregnant, I'd take you, too.”
The police threatened Mr. Li that they would arrest Ms. Zheng and force her to have an abortion. Mr. Li was forced to confess to the "crimes" he was charged with to keep Ms. Zheng and their unborn child safe.
Wife and Baby Harassed
Ms. Zheng's landlady called her on May 31, 2013, and told her that agents from the 610 Office had officials of the He'nanzhuang Residential Committee and officers at Fushan Road Police Station call her frequently. They told her to kick Ms. Zheng out. The landlady wanted to wait until after Ms. Zheng's child was born.
Ms. Zheng was forced to move from one friend's place to another every few days with her eight-month-old to avoid constant harassment from the local residential committee.
Father Disowns His Daughter to Escape Harassment
Just after the Chinese New Year this year, the 610 Office ordered officials from the Fushan Street Residential Committee in Jiao'nan City (currently the Huangdao District) to ransack Ms. Zheng's parents' house. They threatened her parents that they would arrest her and leave her child with them. They demanded that her father help them find her. Her father was so terrified that he disowned Ms. Zheng.
Mr. Li's wife is now on her own with an eight-month-old. She can't afford to go to work and has no means of support. Agents from the Qingdao City 610 Office continue to monitor and harass her.
Police Act Like Criminals
The couple's home was broken into in August and again in October of 2012. Their cash, laptop computer, jewelry, car key, camera, and watches were stolen. They reported it to the police both times, but the cases were never solved.
When Mr. Li was arrested on May 2, officer Liu Kebo from the Licang District told him that the police from the Licang District Domestic Security Division committed both break-ins and he knew where Mr. Li's property was stored.
Ms. Zheng got a call from the Fushan Road Police Station on May 10, telling her to pick up her husband's detention notice. When she asked why he had been arrested, they refused to tell her.
Ms. Zheng hired an attorney to defend Mr. Li. His attorney repeatedly tried to see him in the detention center but was never allowed to.
Practitioners Arrested for "Subversion"
The 610 Office and the Political and Legal Affairs Committee ordered the Qingdao City Police Department to mobilize over 70 officers to arrest Falun Gong practitioners on May 2, 2013.
Mr. Li, Ms. Lu Xueqin, Mr. Yuan Shaohua, Mr. Yang Naijian, and his mother Ms. Liu Xiuzhen were arrested for “illegal gathering.”
The state media CCTV and Xinhua announced on June 4, 2013, that the Qingdao police had uncovered a crime committed by Falun Gong practitioners. Police issued arrest warrants to their families on June 9, charging them with the crime of “organizing an evil religion.” Later the police changed the charge to “subversion,” and all the families were forced to sign agreements provided by the police.
