(Minghui.org) Mr. Li Leyou, an employee of the Baihe Forestry Bureau of Jilin Province, is in serious condition as a result of torture in Jilin Prison. He is suffering from tuberculosis and heart disease, and can hardly walk. Nearing the end of an llegal sentence of three years in prison for his belief in Falun Gong, he is supposed to be released on August 17, 2014. His family is worried that he may not be able to survive that long.
Mr. Li and his wife were discussing their child's upcoming wedding at home on August 13, 2011, when officers Leng Jing and Liu Wenge broke into their house and took Li Leyou to the Second Police Station of Baihe Forestry Police Department. Mr. Li was brutally beaten at the police station. He was sent to a hospital for a physical exam the next day and was diagnosed with active pulmonary tuberculosis. The police had to release him in the evening.
However, the police took him away from home again in the early morning of August 17, claiming they needed to take Mr. Li for another physical exam. However, he was sentenced to three years in prison on December 9, 2011. Mr. Li's family appealed, but eight months later, the Forestry Administration Court held a secret trial without notifying the family. The original verdict went unchanged and Mr. Li was sent to Jilin Prison.
Mr. Li was put in the “education squadron” of the prison. Guard Wang Chunyuan instructed inmates to beat Mr. Li many times. They shocked him with electric batons and brutally beat him.
Inmate Yan Kehui, a drug dealer, promised guard Wang Yuanchun that he would be able to “transform” Mr. Li within ten days, but he failed. Wang scolded Yan for his incompetency. Yan vented his anger at Mr. Li by torturing him even more severely. He stomped on Mr. Li's knees, causing them to swell severely. He also forced Mr. Li to sit in the with his legs in the double-crossed meditation position for 18 to 20 hours a day. For more than three weeks, he only allowed Mr. Li to sleep for three hours a night. Guards Kou Wenbin and Liu Longfei handed electric batons to inmates Pan Lijun and Wang Zhanwu, and ordered them to shock Mr. Li while he was forced to sit with both legs crossed.
Mr. Li was almost disabled from the torture. After being tortured for three months in the education squadron, Mr. Li had a relapse of tuberculosis and heart disease. He was sent to the prison hospital, but did not recover after six months. He was closely monitored in the prison hospital. Every time his family visited him, guards Wang Yuanchun and inmate Zhang Wen would threaten them not to tell anyone about Mr. Li's condition.
The director of the prison hospital had agreed to send Mr. Li to a special ward for the elderly and the disabled. Guard Wang Yuanchun was afraid Mr. Li would tell others about the torture he suffered. He took the director out for dinner and persuaded him to keep Mr. Li in the education squadron.
Everyone knew Li had active pulmonary tuberculosis, which is contagious. However, Wang Yuanchun still sent him to the prison ward, and tortured him in every possible way. His health grew worse and worse. Eventually he could hardly walk and looked expressionless.
Mr. Li's family has demanded that the prison authorities bring guard Wang Yuanchun and his accomplices to justice.
