Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Yuping from Shouguang City, Shandong Province, was arrested on February 4, 2014, by officers from the Shengcheng Police Station while he was clarifying the truth. He is being held in the Shouguang City Detention Center.
Mr. Li was chief of both the Security Section and Logistical Administration Section of Fukang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. in Shouguang. He was forced to retire in 2001 because he practiced Falun Dafa. He was arrested and subjected to extortion on several occasions following his forced retirement. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) employs a policy of bankrupting Falun Gong practitioners, which placed his family deeply in debt.
Mr. Li had previously been persecuted in the Changle Forced Labor Camp, from 2001 to 2004. In addition to being subjected to inhumane torture, he was forced by the camp doctor to take unknown drugs. Mr. Li was previously quite healthy, but he often suffered from severe stomachaches and vomiting following the drug administration. He could barely endure the drugs and secretly spit out the pills several times, but was eventually caught. Several staff then punched and kicked him, and forced him to swallow the pills.
Company Required Attendance in Brainwashing Sessions—Forced to Leave Home
Mr. Li continued to practice Falun Dafa after the persecution began on July 20, 1999, and aligned his thoughts and actions with the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Since he was at the middle management level, the Municipal Police Department and the Municipal Economic Commission wanted to use him to take the lead in renouncing Falun Gong. He adamantly refused, so the company leadership demoted him and reassigned him to the dirtiest and hardest work in the factory. The company continued to pressure him, finally forcing him into retirement in July 2001.
In July 2001, Mr. Li was deceived by Mao Dexing, chief of the Political Security Section of Shouguang City government, then taken to the Shouguang City Brainwashing Center. He had to jump out of a building window to escape. For his own safety, he was forced to leave home.
Three Years of Torture in Changle Forced Labor Camp
Mr. Li was arrested on September 31, 2001 by Yangkou police, then detained in the Changle Forced Labor Camp for three years. During his detention, captain Liu Anxing ordered inmates to subject Mr. Li to sleep deprivation. He was bound, beaten, and forced to maintain squatting or standing positions for extended durations. His mouth was also stuffed with terrible-smelling rags, he was blindfolded and beaten, and his ribs were pulled to the breaking point, along with other methods of torture.
Persecuted by Ex-practitioners
On the first evening at the forced labor camp, Liu Jianguang, Sixth Brigade captain, ordered six ex-practitioners to "transform" Mr. Li. They worked in three shifts, with two persons per group, taking turns in their attempts to brainwash him. They deprived him of sleep by yelling into his ears when he closed his eyes, and beat him whenever he started to fall asleep. They tried to break his spirit to force him to give up Falun Dafa.
Deputy captain Zhu persecuted Mr. Li In July and August 2002 because he had complained about the torture. They ordered him to write a self-criticism and a guarantee statement. Eight people tortured him for nearly two months and continued the sleep deprivation.
Subjected to Multiple Forms of Persecution
Mr. Li was reported to the authorities in February 2004 for distributing Master's articles. Police captain Liu Anxing mobilized eight people to begin persecuting him. They forced him to squat on a square brick for 24 hours. This created excruciating pain in his legs, along with numbness and swelling. After he became too tired to balance himself, he touched the ground to support himself. He was then beaten with a wooden club. At that point, he couldn't hold himself up any longer and fell down. Team members then sprang upon him quickly, kicking and beating him. They forced him to go through several rounds of this torture.
This persecution "team" didn't let up on Mr. Li. Although he was exhausted due to the long-duration squatting, they jumped on his shoulders and rode on his neck, tucking his head between their legs, while beating his head and face. Even though he'd suffered greatly, the team made fun of him. One person said triumphantly, “I'm addicted to beating people. I don't feel right when I'm not beating someone.” He also stated that he represented the CCP. Deputy captain Wang also encouraged the beatings, and agreed, “Yes, you're supported by the CCP government.”
Bending Fingers and Pulling Ribs
The persecutors also sandwiched Mr. Li's fingers with pencils, then squeezed them together to cause severe pain. Mr. Li's hands swelled and turned purple from this torture.
Team members then pinned his arms and legs, and pulled on his ribs. The pain was excruciating, causing him to lose feeling in his chest. They were afraid that others would hear his agonizing screams, so they stuffed a rag in his mouth.
Forced Drug Administration
The doctor forced Mr. Li to ingest unknown drugs, even though he wasn't ill or in need of medication. The staff beat him, then stuffed pills into his mouth and forced him to swallow. He subsequently experienced severe stomachaches and vomiting, and was unable to eat. He tried to secretly spit out the pills, but was discovered, then beaten and forced to take the pills again.
Ordered to “Welcome” Police while Incapacitated
Due to the long-term torture, Mr. Li couldn't stand or walk, and was covered with bruises. Inmates had to carry or drag him to the toilet. Despite his condition, he was ordered to welcome police officers whenever they showed up. Two employees forced him to stand, then captain Liu Anxing shouted, “He's not allowed to ask for anything, for any reason. If he does, beat him!”
Mr. Li was tortured for two months by those eight people, and his feet and legs were numb for six months afterwards. He was then made to write and verify that he'd been "educated and rescued with kindness, and without torture."
Over 40 Days of Rigidly-Enforced Persecution
During the days of rigidly-enforced persecution, Mr. Li underwent sleep deprivation for 72 hours. He was beaten whenever he started to fall asleep, and his head and eyes were swollen, showing discolored bruises. As a result, he suffered from blurred vision and deafness. The continuous sleep deprivation made him very weak and dizzy.
Torture re-enactment: Kicked and beaten
Mr. Li wasn't allowed to speak during the 40 days of torture, and he was forced to stand or squat for extended periods of time. He was hung from his handcuffs and tortured for giving the slightest protest. He was denied family visits, any communication with his family, and monitored during all activities. He finally fell into critical condition, and the officers were afraid that he might die, so they reluctantly stopped the severe beatings.
Arrested Again
Guo Hongtang, deputy chief of the Shouguang Domestic Security Division, tricked Mr. Li's family into opening their door at 10:00 p.m. on May 20, 2008. Officers then rushed into the home and took him away. Mr. Li was tortured by Domestic Security Division officers during seven days of detention. He was beaten while blindfolded, tortured with electric batons, kicked, and punched.
Mr. Li's wife was also arrested at that time. She was released seven days later, after having 20,000 yuan extorted from her.
Family Falls into Debt Due to Persecution
After Mr. Li was taken to the forced labor camp, his wages, as well as his family member's wages, were withheld. The entire family was reduced to having no income. His child was accepted to college, but the police prevented him from attending. The family transferred their child to another person's registered residence to attend the college. His several years of tuition were borrowed, and the debt for tuition was more than 80,000 yuan.
