(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xiong Yuzhen, age 62, from Chongqing, disappeared after she was illegally arrested three years ago. However, her family was recently notified by the local court that she would be tried on April 15, 2014. To everyone's surprise, on April 15, the court announced that “the trial will not be held today, but was to settle her disappearance.”
Ms. Xiong's family was shocked. They asked how she could be missing given the fact that she was arrested by the police. The court staff said that they posted a missing person notice three months earlier, and if she didn't show up in three months, she would be considered missing. Her family further questioned where the notice was posted. The staff said it was in Beijing. Now, three months have passed, and the court is going to sentence her for being missing.
The family didn't know how to deal with this situation. After Ms. Xiong was arrested by the authorities, they were first told “she has left,” then “she is alive,” “she will be tried,” and now “disappeared.” There are so many unanswered questions. Who posted the notice of disappearance? Why was it posted in Beijing instead of Chongqing where she was arrested? And “if she doesn't show up in three months, she is missing?” Ms. Xiong's family felt it sounded like, “being beaten to death will be counted as missing?”
Ms. Xiong was arrested by two female plainclothes officers around noon on July 18, 2011. Her daughter went to the brainwashing center to give her some clothes the next morning. The center staff refused to take them. When her daughter asked why, she was told that Ms. Xiong had left at 4 p.m. on July 18. But the staff claimed to have no idea where she went.
Ms. Xiong has simply disappeared since then. There has been no news at all for years. Her family has visited all the prisons and detention centers but could not find her. They went to ask Liang Yuping of the residential committee several times. Liang said Ms. Xiong was gone but didn't know where she went.
Her salary was also frozen. When her family asked why, Liang admitted it was her idea, but refused to tell the reason. They went to the local 610 Office to look for Ms. Xiong. They demanded to see her if she was alive or see her body if she was dead. The person in the office said, “I promise she is still alive.” They asked the person to release her, but were told, “Wait until the situation cools down.”
Years later, Ms. Xiong has still not been released. According to sources, she was secretly detained in three different places, but the authorities never bothered to tell her family anything.
