(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhao Gangxian was arrested on October 8, 2013 by agents from the Enyang District 610 Office, Bazhong City, Sichuan Province, leaving his bed-ridden ailing wife without his care. She passed away two weeks later.
Mr. Zhao, 65 years old, lives at Jiuzhen Township, Enyang District and had been held at the Bazhong Detention Center since he was arrested. His daughter went to the Enyang District Police Department to seek his release and hired an attorney to enter a not guilty plea. However, he was not released. On the contrary, the family was notified that he would be tried soon.
Unlawful Arrest
Mar. Zhao was reported by someone on October 8, 2013, for practicing Falun Gong. Zhou Hongbing, the chief of the Domestic Security Division, and a few officers, led by Xiang Guangyi, chief of the village, broke into Mr. Zhao's home.
At that time, Mr. Zhao's wife, Ms. Li Yueying was very ill from being bitten by a poisonous snake. Her legs and abdomen were extremely swollen. She had not been able to eat for a few days and was in critical condition. Although police officers were aware that Ms. Li needed her husband, they arrested him and claimed that he would be released the next day. However, the Enyang District Procuratorate issued the arrest warrant on the next day.
Mr. Zhao's Wife Dies, Authorities Plan to Sentence Him
Mr. Zhao was held at the Bazhou District Detention Center. Ms. Li passed away on the morning of October 26, 2013.
Even while the funeral the family and village residents were preparing for the funeral, officers from the Domestic Security Division and the chief of the village, went door to door to ask the residents if they had ever received materials from Mr. Zhao that promotes Falun Gong or had conversations with him about Falun Gong. They were hunting for “evidence” for the trial.
