(Minghui.org) Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Liao Zhijun was illegally arrested on April 18, 2013 and was tried two times in Suxian District Court in Chenzhou City. He was sentenced to four years in prison and has been incarcerated in Wangling Prison in You County.
Arrested and Sentenced
The police went to Mr. Liao's workplace and arrested him on April 18, 2013, claiming that he spray-painted “Falun Dafa is good” on the walls. The authorities tried Mr. Liao in Suxian District Court twice after that. The court sentenced Mr. Liao to four years in prison. Mr. Liao appeared again in Chenzhou City Middle Court. The presiding judge Li Jianxiang sustained the original sentence without holding an open trial.
It is our understanding that Mr. Liao's defense attorney, Wu Jianzheng, was appointed for him by the Suxian District Legal Aid Center. At the first trial, attorney Wu defended Mr. Liao based on the fact that practicing Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance was not illegal. At the second trial, Wu argued that there was no evidence showing that Mr. Liao painted the walls and that the prosecutor could not show that there were damages to society from any such painting.
The presiding judge in Suxian District Court Xie Xiangchang refused to listen and said, “We are just following the official policy. It's the policy makers' fault.”
Prior Persecution Mr. Liao Suffered
Mr. Liao was born on March 9, 1971 and used to work at the train inspection and repair center in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province. He lived in Shanchuantang, Beihu District, Chenzhou.
After the persecution of Falun Gong started, Mr. Liao was arrested and incarcerated twice in the years from 1999 to 2000. He was extorted 6000 yuan and put under house arrest for one year during that time.
Mr. Liao was taken to the Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp on March 5, 2001. He was subjected to torture for over two years. In 2004, he was arrested again and put in a forced labor camp in Chenzhou. In 2008, he was sentenced to three and half years in prison.
Persecution Mr. Liao's Father Suffered
Mr. Liao's father, Mr. Liao Songlin, was also repeatedly arrested and incarcerated illegally by the Chinese authorities because of his belief in Falun Dafa. In 2001, he was taken to a brainwashing center and tortured. In August 2002, he was arrested and imprisoned in the Chenzhou City Detention Center. On September 6, 2003 a judge in Beihu District Court in Chenzhou City sentenced him to three and half years. He was imprisoned in the Jinshi City Prison in Changde City, Hunan Province. After he served his time, in 2008 he was again sentenced to four years in prison.
