(Minghui.org) Mr. Zhang Yinquan was illegally arrested and detained by officers from Jiading Police Department, Jiangqiao Police Station, and Putuo Police Department on May 12, 2014. Despite repeated requests, the officials refused to tell his family his whereabouts, or provide any information about personnel who were involved in the arrest.
Mr. Zhang's family finally received the notification three days after he was detained at the Jiading Detention Center,. This is a violation of the rule that a family must be notified within 24 hours of detainment.
Mr. Zhang’s wife went to the Jiangqiao Police Station a week later, on May 19, to ask for the return of all confiscated items. Seeing that she was by herself, about six policemen beat her, handcuffed her, and shackled her. The police kicked her back during the violence, which caused her excruciating pain. They refused to unlock her handcuffs and shackles despite her repeated requests. After her release, she had a physical exam which revealed a fractured rib, and blood in the urine due to a kidney injury.
Mr. Zhang and his family live in the Putuo District in Shanghai. He was a security guard at a property company affiliated with Xincaoyang Limited Company. He is hard-working and kind to others, and is considered a good person by people who know him. He was about to retire in July.
Several police officers from Jiading and Putuo District broke into Mr. Zhang's home at around 11:00 a.m. on May 12, 2014, soon after he arrived home. They ransacked the home and confiscated his laptop computer, printer, and tablet computer. The police claimed that he was caught by a surveillance camera when he was distributing Falun Gong flyers in Jiangqiao.
Because the “CICA Summit” (Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building in Asia) was held in Shanghai on May 20-22, the police and the 610 Office tightened the monitoring of Falun Gong practitioners. They watched practitioners around the clock and constantly harassed them at their homes.
Along with Mr. Zhang, practitioner Ms. Lin Damei, 67, was also taken to the Jiading Detention Center. Her husband fell severely ill after the police ransacked their home. He now needs around the clock care.
