(Minghui.org) Mr. Zhang Hengyu and his wife, Ms. Tan Fengling, were illegally arrested for their belief in Falun Gong after being pursued by police for several years. They were seized on May 30 from their temporary residence in Hengshui County in Hebei Province.
Their daughter-in-law and three grandchildren were arrested at the same time. The daughter-in-law's parents and their elderly mother were also arrested in the early morning on the same day in Jin County, Hebei Province. They were all taken to the Hengshui Detention Center.
The oldest grandchild of Mr. Zhang is five years old, while the youngest is seven months old and still breastfeeding.
The arrests were directly controlled by the Hebei Province 610 Office. They broke into Ms. Sun Suying's house where they not only arrested the family, but also stole 50,000 Yuan in cash, computers, and printers.
A Decade of Homelessness
After the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, Mr. Zhang and his wife went to Beijing to appeal, but they were abducted and taken back to Hebei Province. Since then, their house has often been raided by police and government officials. They were assessed fines to pay, sent to prison, and faced constant pressure and harassment. So they left home to avoid persecution and began to live a homeless life.
For 10 years, the 610 Office and other government offices posted their pictures and tried to track them down, using a lot of labor, financial resources, and material resources. This relentless pursuit included the use of these inter-provincial efforts, threats, harassment, detention, taking family members hostage, torture, and other means. Their family, friends, and students were harassed. The police repeatedly imprisoned and brutally tortured Mr. Zhang's eldest son.
Mr. Zhang was forced to leave home for many years. He supported himself by selling his own paintings and drawings. His whole family was persecuted and endured much suffering.
Successful Carpet Designer
Mr. Zhang, 50, was director of the design office at Shenlong Carpet Group Co. Ltd., and was in charge of research and development of new products. He creatively applied computer technology to the pattern designs, which raised the company's production efficiency by more than 60 percent, and this established his worldwide reputation.
Mr. Zhang made use of his spare time to voluntarily teach artistic design to children who had quit school. After they grew up, these children did very well in their work, and some even became technical experts.
The couple spent over 200 Yuan to pave a muddy road in the village by themselves, so villagers wouldn't get stuck. Villagers praised them and realized the Party's negative propaganda about Falun Gong was not true.
A Daughter-in-law Well Known for Her Filial Piety
Besides living in harmony with her family and neighbors, Ms. Tan (Mr. Zhang's wife) took good care of her paralyzed father-in-law every day for five years until he passed away. She fed him and gave him his medicine, cleaned up after him, and washed and shaved him.
Ms. Tan became widely known for being a wonderful daughter-in-law, and this was yet another reason the villagers were convinced of the goodness of Falun Gong.
