(Minghui.org) After having endured more than a decade of imprisonment for his belief in Falun Dafa, Mr. Li Kun's 14-year prison term is coming to an end. However, the prison officials recently notified his family not to pick him up on the day of his release because he will be handed over to the local 610 Office officials.
Mr. Li is from Maoming City, Guangdong Province. He and his wife, mother, and son have been targets of the local Chinese Communist Party officials since the persecution was launched in 1999. They have been repeatedly illegally arrested, detained, and sentenced.
Mr. Li and his son Mr. Li Xinhua were arrested in January 2002 and sentenced to 14 and 5 years in prison respectively. His son was still a minor at the time. Both father and son were held at the Yangjiang Prison. Mr. Li was later transferred to Sihui Prison where he is still being held.
Previous Arrests
Mr. Li has been arrested and detained multiple times since the persecution began in 1999.
While reading Falun Dafa books at home with more than 20 other local practitioners, Mr. Li was arrested on the evening of November 9, 1999. The Poxin Police Station officers made the arrest and detained him at the Dianbai No. 2 Detention Center for two weeks.
The police also ransacked his home three days after the arrest and confiscated an electric cable, an audio recorder, and Falun Dafa music cassette tapes.
The Poxin Township Government officials and the local police arrested Mr. Li on February 24, 2000. He was taken to a brainwashing center located at the Poxin Rehabilitation Center for more than a month. The police ransacked his home on April 24, 2000, and confiscated his TV set. He was forced to sign in at the police station every morning and sign out every night.
Mr. Li was arrested and taken to the Dianbai No. 2 Detention Center, where he was held for two weeks on July 17, 2000. He was later transferred to the Dianbai No. 1 Detention Center and detained for six weeks.
When the police demanded that he report to the police station every day in late September 2000, Mr. Li had no other choice but to leave his hometown.
He was arrested again on December 11, 2000, after he opened up a banner on Tiananmen Square and shouted, “Falun Dafa is good!” He was taken into custody and detained at the Mentougou Police Department. Mr. Li went on a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention and was released a week later.
Mr. Li's Wife Sentenced to Three and Half Years In Prison
Mr. Li's wife, Ms. Liang Guifen, is currently in the process of appealing a sentence of a three-and-a-half-year prison term. She is being held at the Miaoming No. 1 Detention Center.
The police broke into her home and arrested Ms. Liang on November 2, 2013. Many personal items were confiscated and 13 other Falun Dafa practitioners were also arrested while they were reading Falun Dafa books. Ms. Liang was tried at the Maogang District Court and sentenced to three and a half years in prison on December 27, 2013. She appealed the sentence to the Maoming Intermediate Court.
During the first appeal hearing at the Maoming Intermediate Court on February 20, 2014, Ms. Liang exercised her right to have Communist Party members excused from the court. When her attorney pointed out to the presiding judge, Huang Changwen, that such a request is lawful and should be honored according to Chinese law, Judge Huang adjourned the court.
During the second hearing of the case on May 8, 2014, Ms. Liang's two attorneys gave convincing arguments on her behalf and demanded an acquittal.
Ms. Liang is known for being a kind person and a dutiful daughter-in-law. She has shouldered the burden of providing for her family since being illegally sentenced in 2002. She paid for her youngest daughter to go to college while being the sole caregiver to her 80-year-old mother-in-law.
Benefited from Practicing Falun Dafa
Mr. Li and Ms. Liang have never yielded to the persecution because they have benefited so much from the practice. They both used to suffer from many diseases, but the illnesses disappeared shortly after they started to practice. Mr. Li quit his habits of smoking, drinking, and gambling. Ms. Liang also became more dutiful to her elders. Everyone in the neighborhood witnessed the wonder of Dafa through the changes that took place in their family.
