(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Wanqiu was expected to be released on July 24, 2014, after serving a three-year sentence. When her daughter arrived at Shaanxi Province Women's Prison to pick her up, she discovered that Ms. Liu's term had been extended for six months because she refuses to give up her faith.
When Ms. Liu's daughter asked to see her, she was turned away by a policewoman named Du, because Ms. Liu was “as stubborn as a mule” not to be “reformed.”
Ms. Liu's daughter later went to the Shaanxi Province Prison Management Bureau to request her release as previously scheduled. When an official from the bureau called the prison authorities, he was told, “Her mother is too stubborn to be educated.” After repeated attempts, the prison eventually agreed to let Ms. Liu's daughter see her.
They met in a small room, monitored by four or five police officers and several inmates who had been assigned to watch her.
During the short meeting, Ms. Liu's daughter noticed bruises around her neck. Ms. Liu was obviously frightened and kept asking her daughter not to say too much. The brief reunion ended with two inmates hoisting Ms. Liu off the chair by her arms and taking her away.
Ms. Liu was illegally arrested in 2011 for being a Falun Gong practitioner, and her daughter was not allowed to visit her until 2013. At the time, she had been tortured to the point where she could only gesture feebly and make incoherent sounds. One of the police officers present gloated openly, “She was so steadfast when she first got here. Now look at what I've turned her into!”
Earlier in 2004, Ms. Liu was held at the Lanzhou City Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center, where she was injected with unknown drugs and was in critical condition at one point.
Her daughter said, “My mother is suffering so much in prison. As her daughter, I am suffering along with her. I only want to be reunited with my mother, so that we can go back to our normal lives.”
