(Minghui.org) A former physician-in-charge in Guangdong Province has been detained at the Jieyang Detention Center since his arrest on August 12. Mr. Liu Shaopeng was illegally arrested because he practices Falun Gong.
During the meeting with his attorney, Mr. Liu Shaopeng (刘少鹏) said that several policemen viciously beat him and put him in shackles after he refused to squat down and be humiliated.

Staff members from the Jieyang City Domestic Security Division, the 610 Office, the Ronghua Police Station and the Jiexi Police Department broke into Mr. Liu's rental residence on August 12. They arrested him and his roommate.
A former physician-in-charge at Ciyun Hospital of the Jieyang Red Cross, Mr. Liu has endured many years of persecution for upholding his belief.
On July 20, 1999, the day the persecution of Falun Gong began, the hospital authority cut his pay down to a little over 300 yuan (~US$50) per month (the average monthly salary is 2,000+ yuan for a doctor fresh out of medical school).
Ruan Daowu (阮道武), deputy director of the hospital and in charge of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, said openly, “This salary is enough for you to live on porridge. I want to see how long you can last.”
Mr. Liu's freedom was severely restricted. He had to report to the hospital authorities if he traveled, even while off duty. The authorities interrogated and threatened him many times and regularly had him write “thoughts reports.” Huang Honghan (黄宏汉), head of the hospital, threatened to take Mr. Liu's apartment away.
Upon returning from a two-year term at the Sanshui Forced Labor Camp, Mr. Liu asked to return to his job. Huang Honghan would not allow him to work and stopped his salary because Mr. Liu refused to abandon his belief in Falun Gong. Mr. Liu had to work at odd jobs out of town. However, the local 610 Office and the hospital authorities continued to harass his family.
Mr. Liu went to Beijing in 2000 to protest the persecution of Falun Gong. Agents from the Jieyang 610 Office brought him back and detained him. They colluded with Huang Honghan and set up a secret prison inside the hospital to incarcerate Mr. Liu. They also forced the hospital staff to monitor him.
