Tumen City 610 Office Uses Bribery to Arrest a Falun Gong Practitioner

Jan. 21, 2015 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Jilin Province

(Minghui.org) Tumen City 610 Office personnel have been known to resort to underhanded tactics to arrest Falun Gong practitioners. Some of their methods include bribing family members to become informants.

Deputy head of the Tumen City 610 Office, Zhao Kai, told Mr. Liu (whose sister practices Falun Gong) that the authorities would pay him 400 yuan a month to be an informant. Moreover, they told Mr. Liu they would release his detained sister once he helped find Ms. Yu Lixin (another Falun Gong practitioner).

Before she was illegally arrested, Mr. Liu's sister often spent time with Ms. Yu.

Mr. Liu asked everywhere for information about Ms. Yu and learned that she was working in a restaurant in Yanji City. After he told Zhao Kai her whereabouts, Zhao led officers from the Domestic Security Division to arrest Ms. Yu on August 6, 2014.

Ms. Yu was escorted back to Tumen City and held in the Xiangshang Police Station. She was tortured during interrogation, and police had to take her to the hospital for treatment.

Ms. Yu then escaped from the hospital.

Zhao Kai ordered Mr. Liu to monitor Ms. Wu's family for any phone calls from her, and soon found where she was hiding.

Ms. Yu was arrested again at a relative's home.

After Ms. Yu's arrest, Mr. Liu's sister was not released, but she faced sentencing instead. She is still held in a detention center.

Background of Zhao Kai

Before he became the deputy head of the 610 Office, Zhao Kai, 37, was the director of the Audio-Visual Department of the Tumen City Organization Department.

Zhao has been persecuting practitioners since he took office in 2010. He has ordered officers from the Domestic Security Division to arrest practitioners and hold brainwashing sessions. He has also helped get practitioners sentenced to prison. Under Zhao's authority, practitioners Zhang Qingjun and Zhang Shuxian were tortured to death.
