Townspeople Petition for Practitioner's Release After He Suffers Mental Breakdown

Jan. 24, 2015 |   By a Minghui correspondence in Jilin Province, China

(Minghui.org) Mr. Zhang Wenlong (张文龙) was sentenced to three years in prison only 15 days after his arrest last February. The reason for his arrest was distributing literature exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. He became mentally disoriented six months into his imprisonment at Hulan Prison, a prison known for using psychotrophic drugs on Falun Gong practitioners.

Mr. Zhang's family visited him on January 12 of this year. His son witnessed his father's condition had further deteriorated. He also saw how other prisoners pushed and shoved his father back to his cell. He feared for his father's life and asked the prison guard to give his father medical parole.

Mr. Zhang's family returned home and described to their neighbors in Shangqiao Town, Yushu City how he suffered such terrible treatment in the prison. Knowing that Mr. Zhang was a kind person, a town official issued an endorsement that Mr. Zhang was a law-abiding citizen who was honest and kind to others. It also stated that he was perfectly healthy until he was locked in Hulan Prison. Close to 100 townspeople put down their fingerprints and signatures on the endorsement to show their support and demand that Hulan Prison immediately release Mr. Zhang.

The endorsement issued by Mr. Zhang Wenlong's town official and the signatures of 93 townsmen.

At the time of this report, the prison still has not granted medical parole to Mr. Zhang.
