Woman Snatched from Home while Doing Chores, Now in Detention More than Six Months

Jan. 25, 2015 |   By a Minghui respondent in Sichuan Province, China

(Minghui.org) Having suffered from migraine for years, Ms. Wu Dunqiong (吴敦琼) was happy to see her debilitating disease disappear after she began to practice Falun Gong. She used every opportunity to tell people that the Chinese Communist Party is wrong to persecute the practice that transformed her life and which brings only good to society.

Such a simple act however landed her in police custody twice.

Mr. Wu, an over-70-year-old resident from Huili County, Sichuan Province, was most recently arrested on July 9, 2014 while doing housework at home. The police broke into her house again two days later and forced her family to sign the arrest warrant.

The Huili County Court scheduled a trial for Ms. Wu for January 6 of this year, but never informed her family. Her husband and daughter didn't learn of the trial until the day before. When questioned about the lack of advance notice, the judge responded, “I did not have your phone number.”

Mr. Wu's family requested a 10-day delay of the trial, but it is not clear whether the judge granted their request. Details of her trial (if any) remain to be investigated.

Mr. Wu has been illegally held in the Huili County Detention Center since the day of her July arrest.

Prior Arrest and Persecution

After the persecution began, Ms. Wu frequently talked to people about Falun Gong to counter the lies and slander perpetrated by the CCP to justify the persecution.

On the morning of May 11, 2010, five policemen from the Yundian Police Station led by Meng Lixin broke into Ms. Wu's house. They ransacked her home and confiscated books, a photo of the founder of Falun Gong, DVDs, and other materials. They took Ms. Wu to the police station, and, shortly after, she was transferred to the Huili County Detention Center.

On June 8, 2010, Ms. Wu was tortured in detention and was unable to stand up straight. To avoid responsibility for her condition, the police sent her back home three days later. However, they tried to intimidate Ms. Wu into not publicizing the persecution on the Minghui website. Police officer Zhuang Mingqing threatened, “If we find that Minghui has reported your case, we will arrest you at once and send you to prison. You could be sentenced to three years.”

Although Ms. Wu was released, she still suffered continual police harassment. On April 1, 2011, two policemen, Wang Zifa and Zhuang Mingqing, broke into her house again. They told her that they would send her to prison because she exposed the persecution on Minghui. They ransacked her home and took away Falun Gong informational materials.

Liu Jianpin, promoted to inspector of the Yundian Town Police Station from political instructor, has been actively involved in persecuting Ms. Wu. He once grabbed her bag while she was walking along the street and stole currency bills totaling 100 yuan. The bills had been printed with truth-clarification messages. On another occasion he forcibly searched her pack and took away several Shen Yun DVDs and other materials.
