Detained Illegally for Practicing Falun Gong

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Han Zhongcui was illegally detained in Gansu Province Women's Prison. After her arrest, it took three months before her family could visit her.

Although Ms. Han smiled and asked about her children and other family members during the visit, her face was swollen.

When the guards led her away afterward, another visitor asked the family what crime she was guilty of. “She hasn't committed any crime,” they replied. “She is being detained here illegally.”

“Oh, I know--she must be a Falun Gong practitioner, then,” the visitor said.

Practitioners Benefit Society

One day I went out to talk with people about Falun Gong. I spoke with a driver, who said, “I've kept a Falun Gong amulet in my wallet for about five years. Thanks to the amulet, things have gone well for me.

“One time, a traffic officer stopped me to check my driver's license. He looked at the amulet and asked, 'Do you practice Falun Gong?’ I replied, ‘What if I do? Everything that practitioners do benefits society. Plus, you have no authority over Falun Gong. You cannot control them.’

“The officer said nothing. He just handed my driver’s license back and left.”

Director Protects Practitioners

I recently ran into a director at work in an elevator. He asked, “Have any practitioners been arrested in the past two years?” "No one's been arrested," I replied, "but the situation hasn't changed.” I was hinting that practitioners were still being unfairly treated, such as being monitored.

I asked him, “Do you know my situation?”

“Why wouldn't I?” he said. “Of course I do—I've been trying to protect you as best I can.”

When I told some other practitioners what the director said, everyone shared their knowledge about how this same director had protected other practitioners over the years.

In fact, all the leaders where I work have used their position to protect practitioners.

Using Their Power to Harm

I was arrested for practicing Falun Gong in 2004. My supervisor at work, who is now retired, spoke with me about giving up the practice. So I talked to him about the preciousness of Falun Gong. He refused to listen and told me that, when he encounters practitioners overseas, he refuses to accept anything they are handing out.

“Why don't you?” I asked. “So many practitioners work here. If you read those things, you would understand the truth about the practice.”

At the time, he cooperated with the CCP and was partly responsible for my arrest.

I saw him during this last Chinese New Year. While I was trying to decide how to approach him, he and his wife quickly walked away.
