(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Yuping died on January 24, 2015, barely two months after she was released.
She was arrested on March 22, 2013, and detained in Shenyang Detention Center. She became very weak and couldn't walk on her own. The detention center released her in November 2014, after she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. They still, however, kept her under surveillance.
Though Ms. Li was in dire condition, she was put on trial for her belief in Falun Gong on April 15 and 16, 2014. During the trial, she could not sit up straight and experienced shortness of breath as a result of the torture she endured.
Her lawyers requested an adjournment. Staff removed Ms. Li from the courtroom for a little while and then brought her back. Despite her health issues, the judge claimed that Ms. Li had no health problem and allowed the trial to continue. She was later sentenced to 3.5 years in prison.
She was one of a group of 13 Falun Gong practitioners arrested for doing the Falun Gong exercises in public. Mr. Liu Zhanhai, another one of the 13, died in Shenyang No. 1 Prison on December 5, 2014. Ms. Li is the second in the group to have died as a result of torture.
