(Minghui.org) Ms. Huang Guixian, 67, former news editor of a TV Station in Guizhou Province, died on January 18, 2015, within a month of her medical parole from prison.
Between December 10, 2014 and her death, hospitals issued seven critical condition notices for Ms. Huang.
The county-level hospital in which Ms. Huang had her medical parole with was not qualified to treat patients with her condition. Even though Sandu County Hospital issued recommendations for Ms. Huang to go to a higher-rated hospital for treatment, prison authorities responded with, “We will check with 'those above.'”
Prior to her medical parole, she had been incarcerated in the No. 1 Guizhou Women's Prison, since May 2013. Her sentence information had been unclear, and the family learned that she was illegally sentenced to seven years in prison, but never saw the verdict.
The repeated delays in medical treatment deprived Ms. Huang of the chance for survival. Her situation deteriorated rapidly within a month. She experienced kidney and liver failure and lasting high fevers. She died at the Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Hospital, two days after her transfer there.
In Life-threatening Condition While in Detention Center
Following Ms. Huang's latest arrest in June 2012, she was held in the Guiyang City No. 1 Detention Center, and then transferred to the No. 368 Armed Police Hospital.
The hospital told her son that her blood pressure exceeded 200Kpa, which was life-threatening, and asked him to sign a document to confirm her condition.
Ms. Huang was transferred to an unknown location in May 2013. The family learned about the move after the fact, through private channels, and was never notified of her whereabouts.
Medical Treatment Repeatedly Delayed
Ms. Huang's son received a call on December 25, 2014, from the Guizhou No. 1 Women's Prison, telling him that his mother was seriously ill, and that the Guizhou Judicial Police Hospital had issued the second critical condition notice, after the first on December 10.
Ms. Huang's son arrived in Guiyang City the next day, December 26, and requested that prison officials to allow him to meet with his mother. He also asked for the medical parole to take place in a city-level hospital in Shenzhen, but the prison officials rejected his request.
The prison officials finally agreed to send Ms. Huang to Duyun County, her registered household location, for medical treatment.
Ms. Huang's family learned later that another critical condition notice had been issued on December 26, the day of her son's visit. However, the prison officials didn't tell him about or show him the document.
The family also obtained late Ms. Huang's discharge records from the Guizhou Judicial Police Hospital. The records stated the doctor's recommendation for her to be treated at a higher-rated hospital.
Ms. Huang was sent to the Sandu County Hospital on December 28, a county-level hospital that is at the same level as the Guizhou Judicial Police Hospital, if not lower.
The prison doctor told the doctors there that Ms. Huang showed decrease in three cells (white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets). The doctors pointed out that they were unable to treat such illness.
Too Late to Survive
Ms. Huang was unconscious when she was admitted to Shenzhen Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine on January 16, 2015. The hospital issued a critical condition notice the very day, and the following day. Ms. Huang passed away on the third day.
