(Minghui.org) I've been a doctor of Chinese medicine for more than 50 years. I have many interesting stories to tell, and being alive to tell my stories is, in itself, a miracle.
Chosen to Study Chinese Medicine
I was eight when I began to study Chinese medicine. My teacher was an elderly man who had looked for me. He was selling Chinese herbs when he saw me playing nearby. He hugged me and exclaimed several times that he "had found me."
The Cultural Revolution was at its height about six months into my studies. My teacher was arrested and detained for five years, so I had to study under other doctors. At the age of 11, I came across a 108-year-old monk who taught me Chinese medicine and qigong.
I learned much about medicine that cannot be learned from books. Many remedies are passed down to a single disciple. They are much more effective than those prescribed by doctors of modern times. To round out my education, I also learned martial arts and other Taoist techniques.
Early Death Predicted
One of my teachers told me that I would not live beyond 1997. I did not argue the point, because it most likely was my fate not to live to an old age. I studied and practiced medicine without worrying too much about my death.
I was almost 40 when I was diagnosed with a rare lymph cancer. My medical knowledge was useless when it came to this cancer. I had multiple operations in hospitals in Sichuan Province. The doctor who performed my last surgery told me that I had, at best, another few years to live.
By 1997, the cancer cells had metastasized throughout my body, and my family was preparing for my funeral.
Learning Dafa
When I was dying, I came across Falun Dafa. I held a tiny hope that Dafa could help me, so I studied the Dafa books and did the exercises. I also followed the Dafa principles Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
Meditation was not easy, as I fainted multiple times, but I persisted in my cultivation. I learned that I was sick because of bad things I had done in this and in past lives. I had accumulated what is called "karma" in cultivation circles. The Dafa books also told me that the purpose of being a human is to return to one's true self.
What was most important was that I now understood that cultivation could change one's fate and extend my life.
Master said:
“If you hold various attachments and come to gain supernormal abilities, have illnesses cured, listen to some theories, or come with some ill intentions, that will not work at all.” (Zhuan Falun)
I was able to let go of that tiny hope that I would live and solely focus on studying the Dafa books and doing the exercises. I also stopped all medical treatments.
The cancer cells disappeared, and I gained 30 pounds. My family experienced my recovery, and my son told everyone about it. Some of my relatives even started to practice Dafa.
Surviving a Serious Motorcycle Accident
I have benefited greatly from practicing Dafa. For example, I had a motorcycle accident in July 2014.
I was driving on a road under construction. The road was very bumpy, and my motorcycle hit a rock. I flew many feet into the air and was thrown another 15 feet.
My mind was unusually clear. I wasn't afraid or in pain. I quickly sat up and saw that my clothes were ruined. My left thumb was fractured. The skin on my left palm was damaged and bloody and I felt that my ribs were also fractured.
My first thought was, "I am a cultivator and I am OK." I repeated this sentence in my mind firmly. I got back on my motorcycle a few minutes later and drove home.
At home, I removed my torn clothes, cleaned myself up, and discovered a hole in my bone near my right knee. I cut off the damaged flesh with scissors and cleaned my wounds with water. While doing that, I heard a click and my ribs were fine. My left thumb recovered in a few days. It took over 20 days for my knee to recover. Only a scar remains to tell of the accident.
I am certain that I have benefited from practicing Dafa. I no longer have to worry about cancer and I have survived a serious accident. If it were not for Dafa, I would not have lived to write this article.
