(Minghui.org) Mr. Pang You was accused of distributing Falun Gong informational DVDs and put on trial on April 27, 2015. The authorities charged him with “undermining the implementation of the law,” a trumped-up charge often used to unlawfully prosecute Falun Gong practitioners.
The police fabricated an interrogation report and gave it to the judge of Huanglong County Court, Shaanxi Province. Mr. Pang stated that he knew the report was falsified because he had never admitted to the alleged crimes during the interrogation.
Mr. Pang You from Beijing was arrested on December 5, 2014, while visiting his business partners in Yibin County, Shaanxi Province. He was reported to the police after he was overheard talking about the persecution of Falun Gong.
He was taken to the Huanglong Detention Center the following day. More than 1,000 people have since signed a petition calling for his release and supporting his legal right to believe in Falun Gong.
He was accused of distributing Falun Gong informational DVDs in the hotel's parking area during his stay. The judge asked for the surveillance video to be played in court. However, the footage didn't show Mr. Pang distributing DVDs, nor were Mr. Pang's fingerprints found on the DVDs. The only “evidence” was the falsified confession.
The prosecutor asked two police officers, who were supposedly the interrogators, to stand as witnesses. When the first officer spoke, the times and events he talked about did not match up with the falsified document. The second officer was even less credible in his account of the exchange. At one point, Mr. Pang asked him directly, “Be honest, have you actually ever met me in your life? I certainly have never seen you before.”
The prosecutor even used Mr. Pang's personal letters that he received during his detention as “evidence” against him.
Mr. Pang's family and lawyer traveled nearly 700 miles from Beijing to Huanglong County to attend his trial. Four police officers went to the hotel where they were staying and searched their belongings without a search warrant at around 9:30 p.m. on April 26, 2015.
Mr. Pang used to be the head of Aoyun Village Planning Office in the Chaoyang District in Beijing. He was sentenced to prison in 2000 and 2009 for a total of 12 years for refusing to give up his belief in Falun Gong.
He was severely tortured in prison. He was handcuffed and shackled and then bound up tightly in a device resembling a strait jacket that would tighten further with each movement.
