(Minghui.org) I'd like to share how I eliminated the attachments to personal gain and comfort, and found a great job after I made cultivation my priority.
High Salary Can Be a Trap
Quite a few years ago, the company I worked for was about to shut down, so I had to look for another job. A colleague suggested that I apply for a job that paid more than 100,000 yuan per year – three times more than my previous job.
During the interview, the boss was very satisfied with my knowledge and experience. He told me that he had read the books of Falun Dafa before, so he believed that I would do a great job because of my spiritual belief.
On my way to the interview, I ran into a practitioner who tried to clarify the truth of Falun Dafa to me. After the interview, I got lost and could not find my way home. These two incidents reminded me that I should make cultivation my priority and not be so enamored with a high salary.
It turned out that working for this company was extremely intensive. Employees not only had to work six days per week, it required additional work at night. I knew that I would not have much time left for cultivation if I took this job, so I quit on the fourth day of the probationary period, although the boss tried very hard to keep me, and told me that I could come back any time.
After I spent two months at home doing the three things, a new company hired me. The new job paid a 100,000-yuan annual salary and the work was five days per week, with a reasonable workload. Also, the new job would enable me to reach many college students and graduates and clarify the truth to them. I happily took this job.
Eliminating Jealousy and the Attachment to Comfort
The company suddenly became extremely busy in late 2013. There were no more free weekends, and we were not paid on time. It was so jarring that I started to consider whether I should continue working there.
I was so busy that I lagged far behind in Fa study. I also needed to upgrade the computer and printers that I used for printing truth-clarification materials, and I needed to master several software programs for our local truth-clarification projects. In addition, I needed to take care of my child, who was preparing for the high school entrance exams. At that time I had another source of income, so financially I did not need this job very much.
I quit the job and told my supervisor that I had to help my child with the high school entrance exams. After quitting, I caught up with my cultivation and addressed all of the problems in my personal life, as well as issues related to Dafa projects. I even had time to travel to rural areas to distribute truth-clarification materials.
Later, through intensive Fa study, I saw that the actual reason I quit the job was the attachment to comfort. I did not want to be told what to do by others, and was jealous that people with skills similar to mine were being paid higher in other companies. When I realized this, I became determined to eliminate these attachments, follow Master's arrangements in my job search, and do whatever was best in terms of saving sentient beings.
Soon after I made up my mind, I received a phone call from the company manager. He urged me to come back to work, offering me a new job with a competitive salary (200,000 yuan per year) in keeping with the current job market. All I needed to do was check the quality of other people's work, which was not time-consuming at all.
Thus, I went back to work. Although the company was still busy, I only had to work five days per week. My child was also admitted to a very good high school. I witnessed how the outside environment was rectified after I positioned myself well as a cultivator.
My understanding is that Falun Dafa practitioners' time is precious. Not only that, we should have enough time for cultivation, and we should also have a good income. As long as we are not attached to material gain and truly make cultivation our priority, Master will make the best arrangements for us.
