The Tiedong District Court tried Mr. Zheng on February 4 and March 12, 2015, without informing his family.

Court Refuses to Accept Lawyer's Documents

Mr. Zheng’s lawyer, along with his family, went to the court to submit the defense documents on March 16, 2015. The lawyer was told that the presiding judge Yan Rong was not in his office, although Mr. Zheng’s family overheard the judgeanswering a phone call. The lawyer then sent the documents by mail that day.

The judge called Mr. Zheng’s lawyer on March 17 and told him that the verdict had been rendered and therefore the documents were not accepted. However, the lawyer noticed when he received the verdict that it was rendered on March 19, 2015, two days after the judge had called him.

Mr. Zheng, from Anshan City, Liaoning Province, was arrested at home by a dozen officers from the Qilingzi Police Station on December 4, 2014. The police ransacked his home and confiscated a computer, a laptop computer, and Falun Gong books.
