(Minghui.org) Mr. Wang Lifeng carried a small package as he and his father walked into the Jinchuan Road Post Office on the afternoon of May 30.
A stranger looked at the package. “What are you mailing?” he asked.
“Documents for a lawsuit,” said the older Wang. The son completed the address slip and handed the package to the clerk behind the desk.
Suddenly two police rushed in and shouted “Stop!”
Mr. Wang Lifeng quickly got the package back from the clerk. The stranger and a policeman grabbed him by the arms.
He struggled to free himself. Both men punched him in the face. His face swelled. Blood dripped from his ear.
The older Wang tried to help his son, but was held back by the other policeman. He shouted in anger, “Let me tell you: I am suing Jiang Zemin no matter what!”
Father and son were arrested for attempting to mail a criminal complaint against former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin, who instigated the brutal suppression of Falun Gong.
Later that night, the son was sent to a detention center for 15 days of administrative detention. His father was released.
Tensions are mounting among authorities in Jinchang City, Gansu Province as more Falun Gong practitioners file legal complaints against Jiang.
Police refused to provide a written warrant of detention against Mr. Wang Lifeng, as it could later be used as evidence against them for making an illegal arrest.
Plainclothes police are stationed outside post offices to intercept practitioners who are mailing their lawsuits.
Three other Falun Gong practitioners were arrested the same day at another post office. Ms. Wang Zefang and Ms. Wang Yongfang are being held in 15-day administrative detention.
Mr. Fan Yongcheng was arrested and his home was illegally searched; he was released later that day.
Mr. Li Yurui, a retired teacher from Jinchang Normal School, was arrested at another post office and held in 15-day administrative detention.
None received a written warrant of detention as required by law.
In 2006 Mr. Wang Lifeng was sentenced to nine years in prison for practicing Falun Gong.
Background
In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.
The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.
Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.
Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
