(Minghui.org) Mr. Zhang Shousheng, 60 years old, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Jilin City, Jilin Province. He has filed a lawsuit against former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin for launching the persecution of Falun Gong and causing him tremendous physical and mental suffering.
The complaint filed by Mr. Zhang charges Jiang with genocide, torture, crimes against humanity, and denial of personal freedom and belief, which are guaranteed to every Chinese citizen under the Chinese Constitution.
Mr. Zhang traveled to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in October, 1999 and was arrested and tortured. He was handcuffed for 38 hours in the Jilin Liason Office in Beijing. Police stole the 800 yuan he carried on him. He was illegally detained for 15 days.
He was arrested by police from the Hanyang Police Substation and detained for 45 days.
Police from the Yushugou Police Substation arrested Mr. Zhang when he visited a friend on November 22, 2000. He was brutally beaten and tortured. Then he was sentenced to two years of forced labor camp and his term was extended by one month.
He was detained in the Jilin City Detention Center for 40 days in November 2000 and then transferred to the Jilin City Forced Labor Camp in 2001.
Fifteen practitioners from the Jilin City Forced Labor Camp, including Mr. Zhang, were transferred to the Liaoyuan Forced Labor Camp on March 27, 2001.
Next, Mr. Zhang was transferred to the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp, Changchun, Jilin Province in November 2001.
Mr. Zhang was released on December 12, 2002.
Mr. Zhang Shousheng lives in Longtan District. He is a former employee of the Jihua Company. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1996 and has benefited greatly.
In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.
The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.
Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang's directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.
Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
