How to Truly Help Fellow Practitioners

Aug. 19, 2015 |   By a Falun Gong practitioner in Heilongjiang, China

(Minghui.org) Helping others is usually considered a good thing. As Falun Dafa practitioners, we know the importance of maintaining a high moral standard and getting rid of attachments. Many things we encounter in our daily lives are due to predestined relationships.

One fellow practitioner in my area had financial difficulties, and another practitioner suggested we help her. I thought we should not do this since whether we are rich or poor is related to the virtue we earned in previous lifetimes. Master said in Teaching the Fa at the 2004 International Fa Conference in New York, “In any case, ultimately you have to resolve your financial situation on your own. You can't depend on someone else to provide for you--that would be a problem.”

Master has already dissolved a lot of our karma, and we need to resolve what’s left. If we rely on others financially, we cannot dissolve our karma and use the process to improve our cultivation. Thus helping fellow practitioners financially may not be a good thing. Unfortunately, the fellow practitioner who was being helped passed away due to illness karma.

Another practitioner’s daughter was about to be married. She asked other practitioners to attend since it would look good to have guests from her family. Some practitioners did come. It would be good if the practitioners who attended the event talked about Falun Gong, and not just show up to help her family.

Nowadays computers are easily accessible, but because many practitioners are old or have limited education, they don’t want to use computers. They rely on others to choose and print out Minghui Weekly or other articles for them. They generally get Minghui news later than those who browse Minghui.org daily. They’ve now grown accustomed to getting printouts from others. For something that needs their own enlightenment, they also wait for others to tell them what to do.

In the wave of lawsuits against Jiang Zemin, many fellow practitioners have this same mentality and are waiting for the coordinators to tell them what to do instead of deciding for themselves. If the coordinator tells them, they will write, print and mail out complaints without deciding what to write themselves.

When fellow practitioners came to my home, I gave them the articles about suing Jiang downloaded onto a flash drive and asked them to read them carefully. I also suggested they make their own decision. When they asked me to help write complaints, I did, but I wrote what they wanted. If some parts needed to be modified, I told them how to modify it and why. If they did not want to change it, I would leave it as they wrote it.

When they mailed their complaints, I asked them to mail by EMS (Express Mail Service) in person, even the elderly practitioners. I think this is the path that Dafa practitioners have to walk. It is best if they do it themselves.
